PO Edwin Hernandez was driving a Highway Patrol unit on Northern State Parkway on 7/27/04 when the vehicle collided with a guardrail & a tree just after midnight. PO Hernandez died from his injuries at Stony Brook Medical Center. PO Hernandez was survived by his wife & 2 children

The SCPD Lacrosse Team defeated the MTAPD Lacrosse Team 6-4 at Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst as part of The Belfast Gastro Pub’s Tunnel To Towers Block Party Fundraiser. Thanks to all who came out to support both teams and support this great cause. Never Forget 🥍🇺🇸🥍.


Seven ducklings are safe thanks to the teamwork of SCPD & the NYS DOT. The ducklings were trapped in a storm drain on LIE. An excavator was used to lift the storm drain cover and Highway Patrol officers rescued them. They were released to LI Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation.




Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina presided over recruit class 24-193 during their graduation ceremony in Hauppauge Friday. Congratulations graduates and best of luck in your careers!
A heat advisory has been issued and the SCPD is advising people to take cautions. It may seem second-nature to check on elderly friends & to not leave children in cars but we don't want you to forget about pets. If your pet is with you, do not leave them unattended in car.
Deputy Chief Alfred Kohler was appointed to the SCPD at its inception in 1960 after serving as the Chief of Huntington Town PD for 12 years. On 7/14/63, a tire blowout on Route 25A in Fort Salonga caused his vehicle to hit a tree, resulting in his death. He was survived by a son.

The SCPD Marine Bureau responds to waterway incidents and rescues throughout the year, which increase during the summer months. Sgt. Schmidt is reminding residents to take important safety measures to protect themselves and their families for a safe and enjoyable summer.
P.O. Henry Stewart attempted to apprehend a subject who had committed criminal mischief on 7/11/92. When Stewart reached into the vehicle to grab the keys, the vehicle accelerated and dragged him down the street, fatally injuring him. He was survived by his wife and 3 children.

Current and former members of the SCPD lined up outside Suffolk County Police Headquarters in Yaphank Friday to celebrate the career of Chief of Department Robert Waring, who retired after more than 39 years of service. Congratulations on your retirement Chief Waring!

Sgt James Hutchens was working on July 2, 1992 in the radio shop garage where he was exposed to lethal levels of CO when a vehicle was inadvertently left running in the shop. The accumulation of fumes proved fatal to Sgt Hutchens. Sgt Hutchens was survived by his wife and son.
