How about a game of connecting the dots! That's what Y4/5 pupils at Co-op Academy Nightingale in Leeds got stuck into for @ScienceWeekUK as part of an @RoyalAstroSoc Constellation Cards workshop with Lucinda Offer and Sue Bowler. Here are some pics courtesy of Mark Wrigley ⤵️

Ever seen a dogstronomer? Your wish is our command. 🐶🔭 Earlier this month up to 500 people (and one pooch!) joined in with a free Art After Dark event in Burlington House courtyard, which saw a telescope set up so the public could enjoy some mesmerising galactic sights 🌌🔭

Our Deputy Executive Director Dr Robert Massey and @AstroRoyalScot Professor Catherine Heymans were both on @BBCNews earlier talking about the #LunarEclipse. Here's a clip! 📺 And if you fancy seeing a timelapse of the spectacle, check out: ras.ac.uk/news-and-press…
We're delighted to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Ian Russell. 👏 Ian will take up the role on 1 May 2025. 🚀 Read more at: ras.ac.uk/news-and-press…

There's a great buzz here this morning for today's Specialist Discussion Meetings at Burlington House! At the @RoyalAstroSoc we've got a discussion on ocean bottom geophysics, while at the @geolsoc there's a meeting about extreme stellar populations. 🌊✨

The Caroline Hershel Medal honours the longstanding scientific cooperation between 🇩🇪-🇬🇧 & celebrates outstanding research by women astrophysicists. I'm delighted to present Prof @IsobelHook with this year's medal for her contribution to the study of distant supernovae.
Rise and shine! What a wonderful morning for a lunar eclipse 🌑 Don't forget to look up at the Moon before it sets below the horizon to catch a glimpse of the spectacle. 👀 Watch this video to learn more: ras.ac.uk/news-and-press… And if you get a picture, make sure you tag us!

Attention early risers! ⏰ 🌇 Don't forget to look out for the pre-dawn lunar eclipse tomorrow morning. Want to know the timings and what you'll see? Check out this video with the @RoyalAstroSoc's Dr Robert Massey or visit: ras.ac.uk/news-and-press… #LunarEclipse
#OnThisDay 244 years ago, the @RoyalAstroSoc's first president William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus from his home in Bath. #Discovery #Uranus #Herschel

Tonight we'll be awarding the 2025 Caroline Herschel Medal to Professor Dr Isobel Hook for her "pioneering" work on distant supernovae and the accelerating universe! 🌌💫🏅 We'll share pictures from the ceremony with the @GermanAstroSoc later. Congrats again @IsobelHook!

🚨Reminder🚨 Tomorrow there are two Specialist Discussion Meetings at Burlington House, London – one on extreme stellar populations and the other on ocean bottom geophysics. If you haven't booked your ticket, now is the last chance to do so! ⤵️ ras.ac.uk/events-and-mee…
