In New York’s recent primary, Zohran Mamdani surged to victory with 56% of the vote thanks to Ranked Choice Voting—a growing system that’s helping voters across the country elect leaders who build coalitions, not just headlines. On this episode of Faithful Politics,…

The Fair Representation Act @RepDonBeyer @RepRaskin is back in Congress to establish ranked choice voting for all U.S. Senate & U.S. House races & proportional RCV for most House races. This is the most important electoral reform proposal of our time. beyer.house.gov/news/documents…
Very thoughtful analysis about how efforts to open primaries to unaffiliated voters and expansion of ranked choice voting could come together in New York City.

My latest charter commission testimony explains why I think this was the right call. A better alternative would be adding ranked choice voting to November elections combined with semi-open primaries. drive.google.com/file/d/1QorRFc…
NEW: OPEN PRIMARIES are closed for the November ballot. Chair @RichardBuery confirms the Charter Revision Commission will NOT propose a question about open primaries this year. Statement below ⬇️ H/t @SalAlbaneseNYC
This one weird trick will help you stop electing candidates with 30% of the vote @RankTheVoteUSA @AllVotesCountDC @fairvote
Huge congratulations to DC voters, 73% of whom backed ranked choice voting & semi-open primaries in 2024 as the ballot measures won n literally every precinct in the City. And special shoutout to @AllVotesCountDC
Wow. The DC Council just voted 8-4 to implement Ranked Choice Voting in DC elections as proposed by Initiative 83.
Important contribution to the New York City electoral reform conversation. The charter commission has made an unforced error in taking off the table adding ranked choice voting to the general election. In this case, it has led women’s representation groups to be in opposition.
In NYC’s primaries, candidates took a more collaborative approach to campaigning than we typically see in elections. Former NYC mayoral candidate @BradLander told @AnandWrites that was thanks to #RankedChoiceVoting, and the response from voters “was really quite extraordinary.”

I testified (again) at the final NYC Charter Commission hearing — as I’ve done for 23 years. One Commissioner muttered, “Shouldn’t there be a limit on how many times you can testify?” Apparently democracy has a punch card now. Watch: youtu.be/9PvK_BS37U8?si…
After today's update with about 60k more ballots, voter turnout is only 19k short of the total in 1989 when Dinkins beat Koch in an epic contest. Mamdani also has won the most primary votes of a mayoral candidate in the history of New York City primaries.
Also: turnout cracked 1 million voters! That's the highest in a mayoral primary since 1989.
