I used to grow the small type of quince, Chaenomeles sp., and make my own quince jelly. Being a thorny bush, it may usefully be planted under windows, to deter people with burglarious intent.
I've often made both quince cheese (membrillo) and quince jelly, which are both gorgeous. You can cook quinces & eat them with meat dishes too. I'm desperate to find a good supply to make my cheese & jelly this year & may go begging them from a neighbour in Suffolk who has trees.
I don't think you can eat them raw. Cooked - delicious!

I’ve had fancy Quince paste from Spain, supposedly good with cheese but I can’t say I’m a fan.
Have you ever eaten slices of quince? Or quince in general? Our trees are looking very promising this year.
