The Weekly Read is "On Exhaustion: Toward a Post-Care Feminism" by Samantha Pinto and Jennifer C. Nash, published in Dossier: Limits of Legibility—Questions of Blackness and Sexuality, a special issue of @differences_DUP (36:1). Read it for free: buff.ly/XDrQAhF
During the South African student movements on our campus, some parts of the library were burnt, and my book was a casualty. Irony: it's a book on radical left student activists in 1970s West Bengal, who also burnt books!
Share a piece of lore about your academic life
Our home food cannot be made by maids .... because caste. (god, I hate uc/mc Indians)
This guy really dmed me “Anyone who is anything in India have servants and help.” The maids, gardeners, and cooks do not have servants and help, and they vastly outnumber the people who do.
"the commodification of research and its immersion in the discourse of metrics, databases, publication targets, publication profiles, impact factors, citation statistics, university rankings, and the image of the academic profession that is produced as a result".
Timely and important reflection on the publication mandate in academia. There’s good reason why some academic authors choose to write slowly and take time to develop ideas. Against Publication: The Case for Academics to Write Less theindiaforum.in/education/agai… @TheIndiaForum

No, India Is Not the Fourth Most Equal Country. Here’s the Real Data Whichever way one looks at the data, the picture is clear: India is a highly unequal country, and inequality is worsening. @SurbhiKesar m.thewire.in/article/econom… via @thewire_In
Businesses founded on the back of PhDs?? People in this country really have no clue abt higher ed quals and that includes those who want a PhD often just for status/title. Also why completion rates are so low; you start the PhD and then realise it's something totally different.
Dr Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh Dr Mmusi Maimane Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Dr Malusi Gigaba I applaud these men & others on their academic achievements. Fullstop. I'm personally disappointed that we are seeing more & more doctorates that don't seem to translate to a real impact in society.…

Reminds me of the Eva Herzigova Wonderbra advert from the 1990s, which feminists like Angela McRobbie theorised as the epitome of postfeminism, where the woman is the object of the male gaze but is also portrayed as controlling the gaze (and taking pleasure in it).
we’re geniunely never making it out of the patriarchy
This is long overdue but I'm thrilled that it's finally happening

Bless my undergrads, all 150 of them! I had a choice to teach postgrad only, as HOD, and i'm so glad I chose undergrad instead. Love how enthusiastic, chatty and curious they are. In this moment when nothing we do seems to matter, they remind me that it does. Gratitude 🙏
This ruling is a big deal - Hindu Americans do not have a religious right to practice caste discrimination, and civil rights protections against caste discrimination are not “anti Hindu” thewire.in/world/hindu-am…
They just suspended nearly 1 percent of the entire student body
columbia just suspended 80 students at once ranging from 1-3 year long suspensions & barnard hasn’t even released their sanctions yet. they have also been systematically targeting students by tripling tuition or removing our financial aid altogether w/ no explanation
The responses to this circulating video reek of classism and casteism.
If you thought reel makers and chapris won't reach and claim our offices, you were wrong. Here is a client who is embarassed by the way he is being welcome to the office and join the chapri culture.
