And another thing... People mistake alt-lit for being a "scene" and ignore the fact that the "scene" is Tao Lin's entry into the book market at the exact moment that the value of realism and subjectivity collapsed into each other. His only real quality as a writer is great timing
I do also find it funny that there are (a huge number of) people who think post-modernism is a point of view and something you can "disagree with"
there's no particular reason for the publishing industry to exist, but the decades of corporate consolidation have effectively killed the alternative distribution networks and caused all the experts who created them to disappear
