Securing dignity and power for all incarcerated people, their families, and communities.
Dignity and Power Now has been partnering with Dr.Keel (@terencedouglaskeel) and the UCLA BioCritical Studies Lab for years to highlight what actually happens to people who die in custody. Check out Dr.Keel's interview with @uclaradio, and lookout for his upcoming book this fall!

ICE's use of electronic monitoring has rapidly expanded. Now, more than 200,000 people on any given day are regularly surveilled & detained by ICE – over 4x as many as a decade ago.
Shame on @kathrynbarger & the COUNTY LAWYERS for their intimidation and removal of two key members of the COC. Tell her that her support of Sheriff violence does NOT go unnoticed! Call her @ 213-974-5555 and visit jlanow.org/CallBarger to see talking points #ProtecttheCOC
The decision to force out Bonner comes after several moves by the county and their lawyers to prevent the COC from DOING THEIR JOB & investigating cases of severe brutality and murders by LASD.
@kathrynbarger and @LASDHQ continue to suppress the Civilian Oversight Commission from holding the Sheriff Department accountable for their brutality. Read LA Times article by @@ConnorASheets to learn more. latimes.com/california/sto…
As abolitionists our collective liberation depends on mutual solidarity. We stand with our communities impacted by anti-immigrant activity and violence. 🕊
I’m here today outside Men’s Central Jail with the mothers and family members of people who died in custody. Last year, LASD deputies met this peaceful rally with riot gear. Kids were eating lunch as deputies lined up with shields and batons. Today, I don’t see that.

LA jails just posted their 18th death for this calendar year -- this time a 53-year-old at Men's Central.
Last year, the LA Sheriff’s Department spent $458 MILLION on overtime. That’s more than double what they spent in 2020-2021, and a huge chunk of change – even out of the department’s massive $4 billion budget.
THREE people died in LASD custody this Sunday, March 30th. With 15 deaths so far in 2025, we’re outpacing the last 20 years for deaths in @LASDHQ custody. @LACountyBOS is currently meeting, but they will once again not be discussing this crisis. LASD is stationed at the door.
