Testing of the replica 1825 train continues at the Weardale Railway concentrating on grades which emulate Shildon to Stockton. Departing Wolsingham Depot tomorrow at 1030 hrs for a 32 mile round trip to Bishop Auckland. Hope the burger van at BA station car park is open!!

In the small seaside town of Wimereux the Germans built Stp 211 Ibis. It was home to the Kriegsmarine M.A.A. 240. Fallen from the cliffs over recent years one of two 612 bunkers as featured here along with the Beobachtung/Observation bunker #WW2

I read this book recently, Michael Palin’s research into his great uncle Harry Palin, who was killed on the Somme. Very interesting, especially the unexpected descriptions of Harry joining the army in New Zealand and fighting in Gallipoli and on the Western Front. #WW1 #books
