This is Stp 203 Brachvogel in Ambleteuse. It covered the River Slack from attack as did the old French Fort D' Ambleteuse built in the 17th century by Luis XIV. Here a rare 629 Pakunterstellraum anti-tank gun bunker and the inside of the adjacent 622 bunker #WW2

This is MKB Waldam east of Calais, it defended the seaward approach to the port of Calais. Once a Heer batterie, in 1942 it was taken over by Marineartillerieabteilung 244. Here the blown guard house at the entrance, a beach obstacle, one of 2 M270 bunkers & it's rear entrance.

Slightly east of Castel Vendon M.KB. Landemar is Wn 229. This is a popular place for it's breathtaking views and great hiking trails. If you carefully venture off the hiking trail you will find there are a number of German MG bunkers incorporated into the rockface #WW2

This is WN 227 Landemer situated on the western approaches to Cherbourg and within close proximity to MKB Landemer. On the beach here you will find two 667 type bunkers and one Tobruk. Buried in the field behind the beach are a 607 and 622 type bunkers. #WW2

I am saddened to hear of yesterday’s passing of Donald Rose - the UK’s oldest Second World War veteran, who passed at the astonishing age of 110.
This is Wn 106, Quineville along the northern stretch of Utah Beach which is part KVUGr St Vaast, (Küstenverteidigungsuntergruppe), the German designation for this area of the Atlantikwall. Here a 667 type bunker with its 5cm KWK gun, a view from outside & a dog, not mine. #WW2

In the small seaside town of Wimereux the Germans built Stp 211 Ibis. It was home to the Kriegsmarine M.A.A. 240. Fallen from the cliffs over recent years one of two 612 bunkers as featured here along with the Beobachtung/Observation bunker #WW2

This is WN 127 in the area of Réthoville, east of Cherbourg. It's the sister batterie to Wn 126 Blankenese at Néville-sur-Mer, which is close by. Seen here looking out at rough seas from a MG bunker, a Wohn Unterstand for troops, a K.W.K. for a 5cm gun & barbed wire posts #WW2

This remarkable sight along the Atlantikwall is StP St Firmin Bihen H.K.B. of the AOK 15 HKAR 7 Batterie which held 17 cm guns. The batterie covered the Baie de Somme, this 688 type casemate bunker now sits in a flooded sandpit. Last shot a Guard house bunker #WW2

Wn 60 Omaha Beach, you can imagine the view from here on June 6th, 1944. Seen here the Vf61a mortar tobruk. Steps leading down, a view of the pedestal and fine detail of the mounting bolts still in place. The 5cm Fest .gr W 210(f) mortar long since gone. #WW2

Every June 5th I think of my Dad, a medic in the second wave on Omaha Beach, sitting in the English channel waiting for the ramps to be lowered. He was a true hero. Always remember June 6th, 1944. photos.app.goo.gl/1nCqmehhBjxMHQ…
Menacing still today - Wn 72 Omaha Beach, Vierville-sur-Mer le Casino. The 8.8 cm Pak gun inside the 677 type bunker.

11am, D-Day 1944. Utah & Sword are subdued. The fight for Juno, Gold & Omaha continues. Important to remember that the Germans are not aware of the 5 beaches. To them, random bits of coastline have been attacked. Understanding where to send reserves (critical) is problematic
Utah Beach, Normandy. Seen here Stp 101 and in order the 676 with its neighbor the Vf 4.7cm PAK bunker and a view from inside. Further along the beach the monstrous 612 bunker with a view from the gun room. #WW2

The aftermath- a German defender of Wn 104, Utah Beach, Les Dunes de Madeleine, Normandy.

“It’s ok Otto, I am sure it’s nothing but the wind...”
