The Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS is saddened by the passing of beloved former EMS Chief Mark Bocian on July 22, 2025. Bocian served @Pittsburgh for 41 years. He was named EMS Chief in 2012, before retiring in 2016. He will be greatly missed. schellhaasfh.com/obituary/mark-…

This past weekend, the Pittsburgh EMS Honor Guard and Pipes & Drums traveled to Arlington, Virginia to attend the National EMS Memorial Service. Pittsburgh EMS has had a continuous and prominent presence at the National EMS Memorial Service for over 30 years.




Pittsburgh EMS continued its annual partnership with the Health Careers Pathways Program by presenting at the Summer Youth Healthcare Academy, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. This program gives high schoolers a closer look at careers in healthcare.




This past weekend, Pittsburgh EMS stood by throughout Schenley Park during the annual Vintage Grand Prix. Pittsburgh EMS is proud to work alongside our public safety partners, the Vintage Grand Prix staff, and the course crew to ensure a safe weekend for all patrons and racers!

Tuesday afternoon, Pittsburgh EMS worked alongside our public safety partners and the United States Secret Service for the President’s visit to Pittsburgh. No serious injuries or illness were reported, and no patients required transport to the hospital.




EMS Training Tuesday! This week marks the start of a career for 11 new Pittsburgh EMS employees. Six Freedom House EMT Trainees were promoted to the rank of EMT, and five paramedic lateral hires started their academy on Monday. Please join us in welcoming Recruit Class 25-02!

EMS units experienced a busy weekend while supporting Picklesburgh, held from 7/11-13. EMS units responded to 27 calls for service, resulting in 5 transports to local hospitals. The majority of calls were related to heat-related issues, including dehydration and dizziness.

Pickles & Paramedics! @PghEMS is out in force this weekend to support Picklesburgh! On medic units, medical carts, & bicycles our team is ready to provide emergency care to all. It’s hot out! Stay hydrated, be alert for signs of heat-related illness, & call 911, if needed.

EMS Training Tuesday! Throughout summer, Pittsburgh EMS has been conducting professional development training with the Bureau’s Crew Chiefs. This 16-hour professional development training focuses on effective leadership, policies review, incident command systems, and much more.

At 10:30 a.m., EMS, Police, and Fire were dispatched to the 400 block of East Warrington Avenue for a single vehicle crash. EMS located an adult female entrapped & utilized EDraulic rescue tools to extricate the patient. Medics took her to the hospital in stable condition.

EMS Training Tuesday! Eight paramedics completed the PA Fish & Boat Water Rescue and Emergency Response Program. This specialized training readies our paramedics to respond to swift water rescues, providing medically directed rescue on waterways and during flash flooding events.
