D. #OTD 1872 Samuel Bamford, radical reformer, poet & writer. Present at & imprisoned after Peterloo, though not involved in violence. Memorial obelisk in Middleton: “Bamford was a reformer when to be so was unsafe, and he suffered for his faith."
The most powerful volcanic eruption in recorded history took place in Tambora, Indonesia, #OTD 1815. Its effects led to the ‘year without a summer’ in Europe the following year, a harvest failure deepening hardships that contributed to the Peterloo protest in Manchester in 1819.
