What causes #poverty? Nothing. It's the original state, the default and starting point. The real question is, What causes #prosperity?
This nugget of wisdom from Mises (Human Action, p. 487) provides the core of an explanation for exponential growth. What it takes is the appropriate conditions for the process to get started (savings) and then allow it to continue sufficiently unhampered.

I can't help thinking that the best thing you can do for your country is to turn your back on and shun its politicians. It doesn't matter if they pretend to be left or right, they're still not on your side.
Isn't it interesting how these strongly feeling peeps, usually but not always on the left, are always so quick to disrespecting others, yet right away claim the higher ground as though nothing happened. Except they haven't actually said anything of value. It's all empty.
Per you can just go fuck yourself, please.
From "It Is Dangerous to Be Right When the Government Is Wrong: The Case for Personal Freedom" by Andrew P. Napolitano, 2011, Chapter 13.
Valid question.
I steal, I'm a criminal. Govt steals, it’s taxation I print money, it's counterfeiting They do it, it’s 'monetary policy I invade Ghana & slaughter innocents, I'm a warlord They do it, it's foreign policy Tell me, what EXACTLY makes evil legal when the state does it?
Freedom is slack in your chains, not being without them.

Does an economist have to adhere to the Laws of #economics? The short answer is yes. Not because they're catechism (they're not), but because they have been proven repeatedly for centuries and all disagreements to date are politically motivated and based on fallacy.
I am fascinated by how often MMTers think they can properly respond to my debunking of Wray's #chartalism by simply asserting that there's demand for currency beyond its use for tax payments because it's money... IOW, they don't understand what the chartalist argument is for. 🤦
