National Chair POA
@POAnatchair
Proud trade unionist.
Drones are not a new problem . The @POAUnion have been warning @hmpps about them for years and as usual they buried their heads in the sand hoping they would fly away .
This week I spoke to Times Radio about the threat drones pose to prisons and the impact on Prison Officers 1/2
Former @unitetheunion leader Lord Tony Woodley raises the same union fears the following week, asking the minister to “make the case to the Home Office that #prison officers should be exempted from this arbitrary limit and their employer should also help to pay their legal…
HUGE VICTORY FOR UNION MEMBERS AT GATWICK 💥Victory for POA members at Gatwick: Over £5,000 secured per member after winning our Employment Tribunal case against SERCO. It pays to be POA ✊ poauk.org.uk/news-events/ne…
“The @POAUnion the POA, what have the POA ever done for us” 😂😂😂 👇
The POA are a fighting union and on behalf of 147 members at Gatwick we submitted an Employment Tribunal Claim on a pay deal that was imposed. I won’t go into detail as yet but we have won compensation of £5128 for each member after a unanimous decision of the ET against their…
PR 285: HMP PENTONVILLE INSPECTION REPORT EXPOSES THE CRISIS IN THE UK’S JAILS SAYS UNION | The POA poauk.org.uk/news-events/ne…
At last week’s Justice Questions in the Commons, MPs asked ministers about #Serco’s failing private contracts, #prison officer pension age, excessive #probation workloads, record prison violence and why we urgently need to insource prison education🧵1/16
JUPG co-chair @LSRPlaid highlights union warnings today: “Thousands of the UK Govt’s own staff could face deportation because their pay will now be too low” under new visa thresholds – “such as #prison officers, whose going rate appears to fall short by at least £3,000”.…

Deliveries of weapons via drones do not help reduce the risk to my members . This Government and employer need to get a grip and get a grip now!@POAUnion news.sky.com/story/prison-o…
It’s only a matter of time before we have a major headline .
The government must take action to stop drones being used to deliver illicit goods into prisons 2/2
Great support again today from @BrianLeishmanMP for all @POAUnion members.
I agree with @POAUnion Prison officers should not be working at 68 years of age. In fact, no worker should! Today in Parliament, I highlighted that this horrendous Tory policy should be scrapped.
We want control not chaos and staff on the frontline are up for the fight . Unfortunately many leaders want regime regime regime above safety. Weak leadership leads to this. Things must change @POAUnion 👇 spectator.co.uk/article/organi…
Another broken pledge by @UKLabour especially when it comes to prisons . This Government continues to outsource a completely failed model of prison maintenance . After reading this it’s hardly surprising why. @POAUnion ft.com/content/70a9fe…
My thoughts on the latest get out of jail quick scheme @POAUnion
Cannot express how honoured and grateful I am to be re elected as @POAUnion National Chair. Heartfelt thanks to all branches that nominated me and the NEC , FTOs and employed staff for all their support. Best of luck to all the candidates in the NEC elections.
Nominations have now closed for the POA National Chair and NEC election. Mark Fairhurst current NC has been elected unopposed for a further 5 years. He will become the longest serving NC in the history of the POA. Thoroughly deserved a great person and great NC. I love working…
“It would be wholly irresponsible of the government not to give my brave colleagues the protections they need when dealing with violence,Using the ethnicity or age of offenders to excuse their violent behaviour is shameful” theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
We need activity spaces for every prisoner. We need proper protection for staff. We need consequences for violent behaviour.
"There are too many weak managers in our prisons. But if they’re willing to listen, we can make jails safer for staff and more successful at rehabilitation."
Abused threatened and assaulted on a daily basis. Is it any wonder staff soon leave after joining the service ?
"Assaults on prison staff are at a 10-year high. The pressure is immense. Tougher consequences for these attacks are urgently needed."
