He is still the biggest obstacle to the series' future
The @uscfb-Notre Dame rivalry is one of the greatest in the sport. Lincoln Riley shares his thoughts on the historic series 👇 #B1GFootball
"I'm hopeful we can get to the point where (USC-Notre Dame) makes sense." Lincoln Riley remains clueless
USC's Lincoln Riley: "My very 1st thought (when hired as OC at OU) was I get to coach OU-Texas. When I decided to take USC job, my 1st thought was I get to coach USC-Notre Dame. Do I want to play the game? Hell, yeah. I'm hopeful we can get to the point where it makes sense. The…
I get the rivalry aspect and that's why I didn't say it would be meaningless. But the Big Ten is endorsing a playoff structure where nonconferences games have very little value beyond seeding.
Since the 2017 season, @CaesarsSports opening lines are 27-5 SUP picking CFP games. Evaluating college football teams properly is not like putting somebody on the moon.

On seeding ... a core tenet of #StayAt4 was warning that seed & team quality would be misaligned, thus seed wouldn't be critical (#BracketLuck). Only 1 year in, but that looks accurate. Committee / #MetricsConsensus rank 1/3 2/5 3/4 4/8 5/2 6/1 7/9 8/10 9/25 10/13 11/6 12/18
I asked Lincoln Riley if the stakes of rivalries like USC-ND would be lost with a four-AQ format that devalued non-conf games. “I think it incentivizes you even more to play them,” he said. Pointed out that CFP seeding would still be impacted
Washington lost to Wazzu and Rutgers in the same year, they have more to worry about than the CFP format. Can’t wait until they kill that rivalry and ruin college football even more
“We can’t leave it up to chance with a 5+11 combo,” said Washington coach Jedd Fisch, pushing for the four automatic qualifiers.
Just putting this out there for visibility, and accountability. They will continue to play USC-Notre Dame regardless of CFP format. I am open to anybody who claims otherwise to propose a charity bet.
USC coach Lincoln Riley on Notre Dame rivalry: "Do I want to play the game? Hell yeah." But adds CFP format will likely determine the future of the storied rivalry.
I know that people get tired of talking about conference realignment and CFP format, but I think Texas fans (and fans of other SEC schools) need to start paying attention to what the B1G is proposing. It’s very bad. The SEC is in a great spot, and B1G is trying to ruin it.
"It would still affect seeding." #StayAt4 was yelled at for years by those who thought expansion would improve non-conference scheduling. And this is what it's come to.

Here's the issue with the AQ model: What if Big Ten team X loses badly to an SEC opponent, gets upset by a MAC team, then recovers and finishes 6-3 in conference, wins a play-in game and qualifies for the CFP at 7-5? Meanwhile, Notre Dame takes an AL, the SEC grabs two more and…
Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti says it's "set forth clearly" in CFP agreement that B1G and SEC control the format - a different interpretation that what the Big 12's Brett Yormark suggested recently
Tell me you don't understand the history and appeal of college football without telling me ...
Petitti is now defending the possibility of an 8-4 B1G team getting in to the CFP. "If you project that winning percentage across every other sport, I'm pretty sure you make the postseason. ... We've conditioned ourselves to think that if you're not a 1 or 2 loss team you're not…
This guy is not a college football fan. The third straight Big Ten commissioner to try to fundamentally alter the sport at everyone else’s expense.

I can't say enough good things about this article from @slmandel. This is my favorite excerpt. 🎯
Big Ten Media Days this year took place on an alternate planet. Planet Gaslight. The commissioner insists we'll all love 8-4 teams vying for CFP berths. The coaches are weirdly fixated on the SEC's schedules. And everyone talks exactly the same way. nytimes.com/athletic/65131…
“We will only play a historic rivalry game if it doesn’t count” - Riley
I'd like to see USC keep doing what it does best - watching all of the CFP games yearly on TV.
Like to me it feels like a high school schedule where the games against you conference or district matter. The stakes wouldn’t be the same on LSU Clemson if we knew it literally didnt matter at all. The fans of the teams might care but it has no national impact correct?
I genuinely don’t understand how non conference games will work with automatic bid. Is at least the seeding under a committee? What is is the incentive to try to win these games? Is just exhibition games?
