Being Outside Cricket
@OutsideCricket
A few grumpy gits and their friends. Don't agree with each other, unlikely to agree with you. Also on bsky.
Just a reminder that we can also be found at @outsidecricket.bsky.social
This could be an interesting mix of replies. You’re probably a cricket fan if you follow me. But do you play cricket? If not, why not? What’s stopping you? Have you ever played? Particularly interested to hear from fans who have never played or who haven’t played much.
Not sure what’s more embarrassing, that shot or getting your foot broken by Chris Woakes? #ENGvIND
Also Eastbourne College who once bowled my state school team out for 18. Yes I got a 🦆🤦🏻♂️
I agree - public schools like Eton, Gordonstoun, Radley and Winchester should be abolished.
Also if we’re focusing on just fitness & not pure talent (which England are also lacking), how many of this team gets in the Aus or India squad? NSB (on both), Dunkley, Knight, Bell, Wyatt maybe. But struggling after that. .@AlexHartley93 was absolutely right in her criticism.
England is one of two teams with a professional domestic structure for women's cricket. The largest one in the world. If not one of the ~120 full time professionals aren't good enough to challenge for a place in this team, which is playing like this, that's damning.
It is damning. That’s the problem. But plenty happy to turn a blind eye..

But in fairness to Lottie, where is the depth? The England A-side have more of the same issues. Poor fielding, significant fitness concerns and poor decision making with bat and ball. Could well be a rough few years..
England's ODI loss today, with a poor performance both bowling and fielding, is their last game before the ODI World Cup in October. It feels like they wasted this summer, not trying anyone or anything new after their embarrassing Ashes performance, and haven't progressed at all

Also ordered. Great cause too. Thorpe was my favourite batsman growing up. Sadly I lacked his talent.
If, like me, you’re keen to support A Day for Thorpey at the Oval during the 5th Test and @MindCharity, one way you can do so is to get yourself a classic Graham Thorpe headband. It’s only £5. It’s not much really, is it, given what he gave the game? shop.mind.org.uk/products/thorp…
Just to follow up on my participation post from yesterday, how may overs = the perfect length of a game of Saturday club cricket? Which option would make you play more?
Read this on the page of an amateur cricket club website 30 minutes ago and haven’t stopped laughing since…😂. What does that make us? The four horsemen of the cricket apocalypse?? 🤷🏻♂️🤣

They will until the players of the lower division of 6 suddenly find P45’s in their hands. Would basically guarantee 6 counties going bust.
Players would also back a proposed move to a conference system for the Championship with a 12/6 split - two upper divisions of six above a lower division of six bit.ly/4oaakoy

I’m sick of the shit and hassle I get for the content I post on here. Content that I create in my own time - precious free time from my paid job. I get abuse, sexism, misogyny and accusations I post for reach only. Simple solution to that, I wont post any stats content from now.
Kinda missing the point that the majority of fans want a 14 fixture red ball county championship in place 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Mystery signal translated as “for the love of god, please drop Zak Crawley”..
Just in. NASA discovered a 'super Earth' exoplanet that is sending mysterious signal towards us. The planet, named TOI-1846 b, is almost twice the size of Earth and four times as massive, orbiting a red dwarf star 154 light-years away.
I remember the 46 all out in Trinidad, 1994. Zero sympathy even if it’s the Aussies doing the damage #WIvAUS
Don’t want to be too alarmist, but pretty sure the West Indies aren’t winning this one #WIvAUS
Lulling the opposition team into a false sense of security. Clever. #WIvAUS #AdvantageWI..
Well thats an opening over... #WIvAus
If only the West Indies had a half decent batting line up #WIvAUS
