First proper piece of my "Black Belonging" series. My legacy to the next generation. See following tweet for full piece.

I would say about 90% of my takes on here are pure moral intuition. I don't need the empirical to assert an opinion with conviction. But then again, formation (well-tuned conscience shaped by community, liturgy, memory, and story) has been a huge part of my development.
Empiricism has colonised common sense in modern Western society. Everything is defaulted to social science data. The absurd consequence? We now need peer-reviewed studies to prove that loneliness is bad for you. There is a real crisis in moral intuition.
Alas....what I've been asserting for years has proven to be true. Maybe, just maybe, this event will widen the plausibility structure of the British populace around the role of community in life.
BREAKING: the council have voted to support the closure of the Bell Hotel in Epping, news which was music to the ears of the crowd protesting outside
Even the current liberal establishment are increasingly pulling upon authoritarian tools. People will not enjoy full blown authoritarianism.
This is an insane "moral response" to the matter. 😂
Just landed in Heathrow Airport T3. Went into M&S. Three @marksandspencer staff speaking in another language. I asked them “What language are you speaking?” They responded “Hindi” I have a voice recording & their names to report to M&S. We must confront them every time.
I've accepted this. It's more comfortable for some to remain in misery. A realisation that came to me early on in life is that "not everyone will make it". And it's largely because of the narrative they walk throughout life with.
I'm increasingly convinced there is a subset of the population that doesn't like being happy. And they hate it even more if other people are happy.

I know this will largely be shaped by faith. But crucial to also highlight that the Christianity inherited has been shaped in a cultural context that places high emphasis on providence and destiny (purpose). I wrote this about Nigerian Christianity.

What is interesting here is that most people today (understandably) can't express what unique British values look like, if asked. But that is not to say that there isn't an instinct and mood. Britishness is implicit unlike explicit Americanness—declaration and doctrine.

Not every problem has a right answer or a quick fix. The mature learn to sit in the tension, to wrestle, to wait. Discomfort is often the price of wisdom.
Correct. Knowing your limits isn’t shameful—it’s wise. Equality in dignity doesn’t mean equality in judgment. Sometimes the smart need to "flex" their capabilities, if only to protect the commons from nonsense.
I'm not sure intelligence can be taught. I tend to think it's more innate than learned, an instinct more than a skill. If it were possible to teach someone how to think, there wouldn't be so many stupid people, ridiculous conspiracies, & wrong political answers floating about.
Without the imago Dei, dignity becomes conditional. We lose the ability to talk honestly about human nature without devaluing people.
Being well-read doesn’t make you insightful. The ability to synthesise experience, data, and intuition into tangible insight—that's the mark of a visionary.
👇🏿 Insightful. Thanks for sharing.
Im a cognitive neuroscientist, I dont like IQ tests. My analogy is its like selecting a future olympian from their sprint, jump&swim. It says something, but it is also built on averages, so a genius visionary might have an avg IQ bc they are weak in others areas - spiky profile.
