The 32nd paper from the #cryoEM facility in #KEK. Collaboration with Profs. Noji and Murata. Multi-stalk FoF1-ATP synthase was engineered to enhance H+/ATP ratio. Cryo-EM structures clearly showed the presence of multi-stalks! Outstanding work, Ueno-san! nature.com/articles/s4146…
Nearly 20 years ago, Ueno-san, Noji-san, Tabata-san, and I discussed if we can engineer ATP synthase with multiple a-subunits, it may rotate faster than the wild-type, driven by the proton motive force. Now Ueno-san has finally made it happen, but it already existed in nature!
Kubo-san (@dynein_awk)'s preprint was now available on bioRxiv. We conducted hybrid molecular simulations to explore how side-chain flexibility at proton-binding sites and the asymmetry of proton channels affect Fo ATP synthase rotation. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
