The police report accuses Will McNeil of reaching for a knife on the floorboard of his car, yet none of the videos from the traffic stop (either that he took or from police body cam) shows McNeil reaching for anything. news4jax.com/news/2025/07/2…
Faced with a viral video of a police stop in which a citizen was sucker-punched (a term the sheriff disputes), the sheriff warned about the limitations of video evidence. But in 2023, when he relied on body cam video to lock up a man who filed a complaint, this was JSO’s view:
The sheriff seems perplexed over why the man didn’t file a complaint against the officers sooner. In 2023, Waters arrested someone who filed a complaint that JSO deemed “blatantly false,” and then ran a media campaign around it. He was warned that would have a chilling effect.
Sgt. William H. Cox, 45, was promoted to his current rank less than a year after he was punished in 2021 for improperly spraying noxious chemicals into the face of a disrespectful detainee at close range, then refusing to sign the official reprimand. jaxtrib.org/2025/07/21/ran…
One of the officers involved in Charles Faggart's death was once reprimanded for making 2 inmates strip naked before they were allowed in their housing pod. JSO even called the FBI to see if a federal civil rights investigation needed to be opened. jaxtrib.org/2025/07/21/ran…

Ron DeSantis also approved a $2 million gift for the horseracing industry in this year's budget. He cut nearly $600 million in spending – including money for housing, river restoration & public broadcasting. But he didn't touch the subsidy for owners of thoroughbred racehorses.
Appears Ron DeSantis' support for a key piece of legislation this year solidified with a billionaire-funded trip to the Kentucky Derby, not listed on his daily schedule, & a few hundred thousand dollars in campaign contributions. The Florida Blueprint! horseracingnation.com/news/A_turning…

A consulting firm with ties to a Jacksonville business leader landed a $78 million contract to provide critical services at an immigration detention center in Big Cypress National Preserve, marketed as “Alligator Alcatraz,” according to The Tributary. news4jax.com/news/local/202…
State Rep. Anna Eskamani, who visited the detention center and recalled seeing CRS branding attached to staffers’ name tags, said the firm was simply “not qualified” to manage the detention center. “No one knows what’s going on, nobody can answer basic questions.”

Sidney Jones testified that he wasn't rewarded for testifying in Kenneth Hartley's capital trial. But an analysis of his record by @TheJaxTrib shows 16 arrests with little jail time in the 2 years he went from becoming a witness to testifying. jaxtrib.org/2025/06/26/cop…
Justice Sotomayor and Justice Kagan dissented from the denial of a stay and would have granted the petition for writ of certiorari to review what procedural rules govern the timeliness of claims arising out of the prosecution's suppression of exculpatory evidence. #MichaelBell
