Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty is a statewide grassroots organization working to end the death penalty in Florida.
Your friendly reminder to sign our petition to end the death penalty, and share it with everyone you know! We appreciate your support in helping us end the death penalty in Nevada.
Last week we created an advocacy action for Edward Zakrzewski due to Gov. DeSantis’ fast signing of his death warrant. Many of you have already advocated for him, but if you haven’t, please do so now before July 31st! Raise your voice: catholicsmobilizing.org/stop-the-execu…
Not one of Zak’s death sentences would survive under Florida’s current sentencing law. This is just one of the many reasons the death penalty must be abolished. Take action and reject a system that sentences people to die under rules we no longer allow. bit.ly/SpareZak

BREAKING: Governor DeSantis aims to set a gruesome record — 10 executions in a year. Kayle Bates is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday, August 19 at 6 pm for the 1983 murder of Janet White.

Last night, Florida executed Mike Bell. He was the eighth person executed in our state this year. Florida has now executed twice as many people as any other state in 2025. fadp.org/rest-in-peace-…
Florida has executed Michael Bell. This is the 26th execution in the US in 2025. Rest in peace, Mike. We mourn your execution, and we remember your life. #MichaelBell
Florida has executed Michael Bell. Death was pronounced at 6:25 p.m. Eastern. He was the 26th execution in 2025. 25 of those executions have been in jurisdictions that, as states or territories, practiced slavery. @FLDeathPenalty @FADPorg #deathpenalty
U.S. Supreme Court rejected a plea to block the execution of Michael Bell who was convicted of killing a Jax couple more than 30 yrs ago Justice Sotomayor and Kagan would've granted the stay of execution so the court could have heard Bell’s appeal. jaxtrib.org/2025/07/15/u-s…
For the first time in recent history, Florida's execution spree gets attention at SCOTUS. While Mike Bell's claims were denied, both Justice Sotomayor and Justice Kagan would grant the application for stay and the petition for a writ of certiorari.

Michael Bell's brother, Lamar Bell, was killed in 1993. His daughter Lakishea has shared the following statement with us ahead of her uncle's scheduled execution.

At 2 p.m. today, in partnership with @CMNEndtheDP and @DeathPenaltyAct, FADP will deliver more than 5,500 petition signatures to Governor DeSantis, urging him to halt Michael Bell's execution. fadp.org/fadp-urges-gov…
The @FlaCathBps are urging Gov. DeSantis to stay Mike Bell's execution. They acknowledge the victims’ families’ profound loss and advocate that "there is a way to punish without ending another human life." Read their letter. files.ecatholic.com/11291/document…

Mike is 1 of 2 people scheduled for execution this month. Gov. DeSantis has also signed Edward "Zak" Zakrzewski's death warrant, planning to kill him on July 31. If both executions go forward, FL will have executed 9 people in 2025, shattering its modern record of state murder.
Here we are again. Another human life scheduled to be taken by the state this week. On July 15, Florida plans to execute #MikeBell, whose case has been plagued by racism and procedural failures. Join @FADPorg and ask @GovRonDeSantis to choose mercy. fadp.org/stay-the-execu…
Today we are celebrating our Executive Director Maria DeLiberato’s birthday! Her deep commitment and expertise inspires all of us. We are so grateful that she is here to lead and hope today is a special day for her full of love and light! Happy birthday Maria!
Governor DeSantis has the sole authority to stop this execution at any time, for any reason. Thousands of you have been calling on him to do so. If you haven’t yet, please sign the petition: bit.ly/SpareMikeBell
