Sting nematode damage to peanut roots. Sting nematode is increasing in importance on peanut in Florida

The UF/IFAS turfgrass pest management team visited the Florida National Cemetery to help with some grass problems

Looking at yield losses on cotton and soybean in the USA 2024. Comparison of losses due to nematodes vs all other plant diseases. Nematodes are the real deal! (Derived from Crop Protection Network estimates)

Did you know that ectoparasitic nematodes were not considered damaging to plants until Florida nematologist Vernon Perry demonstrated sting nematode damage to celery and strawberry in 1950 (photo)? Fumigated on right, sting on left.

The exhilaration when, after 6 months of intense effort and sleepless nights, the experiment works and supports your hypothesis! Great work @EricaGuri !

Nematode counts are not always the best indicator of nematicide efficacy on turf. Focus on root health and not nematode numbers to determine if a treatment works onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/it…
Update: No root-knot nematodes were found in the bumps, they were caused by potato scab ☹️
Someone dropped off a box of root-knot nematode infected potatoes. @sabinabudhatho7 will find out which Meloidogyne sp. they are

We had some lab "cross-pollination" today. My Nematology Lab visited the Honey Bee lab for a hive demonstration.

Mist extraction is a must when assaying for plant-parasitic nematodes! Soil extraction does not tell the whole story for root knot nematodes.
Dr. Richard Baidoo, who received his PhD under me and is currently a Nematicide Discovery Scientist with Corteva Agriscience, received the Most Promising Scientist Award! Congratulations Richard!

On the right with the yellow X is a plot that was treated with Syngenta's upcoming new turf nematicide Trifenti... 2.5 years ago!

Mother's Day at the Crow's. My beautiful wife with our kids and the grandbaby

How do you know if I have a nematode problem? Here's your sign!

Say hello to La'Shawndra (Shawn) Camps the newest addition to the @NemaAssayLab team. Shawn will be answering the phone and emails, dealing with our database, billing, etc.

Pictures coming in every day from county agents and crop consultants. Poor, patchy growth in some fields of corn. More often than not, stubby-root and sometimes sting nematodes are the villains. Pictures here from Bleckley and Cook Counties. UGA Extension
Meloidogyne bachelor party. Non-nematologists may not get this one 😁

My friend @Alto_Fuego took this beautiful photo of root-knot nematode infecting bermudagrass roots. How many pearly round females can you find?
