Heat index values through the weekend will be slightly cooler (literally only a few degrees, so don't get too excited). An areawide Heat Advisory is in effect through 8PM Friday.

Heat remains the story. This loop shows the Heat Risk over the Midsouth for the next 7 days. These graphics are available here: weather.gov/erh/ghwo?wfo=m… The good news is that we will likely see -slight- moderation of the heat Friday and Saturday.
This heat is no joke, Mid-South. Due to minimal nighttime cooling, the Heat Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning will continue through the overnight hours and into Thursday evening. Things may cool a degree or two this weekend, but long term forecasts keep our area hot and humid.

A special weather statement has been issued for Iuka MS, Burnsville MS and Tishomingo MS until 3:00 PM CDT

With the air temperature of 95F, the temperature of surfaces is actually much higher, especially in direct sunlight... Exhibit A (a car's door handle), B (a car's seat), and C (a car's steering wheel). 1st degree burns can occur with temperatures as low as 111F. ♨️🚗

So.. We conducted a science fight (experiment)... Shade🆚Full Sun... Winner by decision: Shade by 34 degrees🫨 Full disclosure... this was only 5ft apart🫠 #heatsafety

It's a bit warm out there (1pm heat index)..🫠 As we move further into the afternoon hours, it's just going to get hotter. Please limit outdoor activity through the remainder of today and drink plenty of fluids. 🥵 #mowx #arwx #tnwx #mswx

All of Midsouth is under an Extreme Heat Warning today, with heat indices peaking at or above 110. We will get an ever so slight break in the heat this weekend, before the extreme heat returns Monday and Tuesday.

An areawide Extreme Heat Warning is in effect tomorrow as heat index values exceed 110F. Yes, it gets hot every summer. However, that does not mean that these temperatures don't result in fatalities. Please, take breaks and hydrate if you must be outside this week.

⚠️The heat continues to build across the region. Tomorrow will be another dangerously hot day. Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the heat of the day, wear loose, light colored clothing, and spend as much time as possible in the AC. #tnwx #mswx #mowx #arwx

📢On this date in 2003, a derecho ripped through the Memphis Metro, resulting in widespread property damage and severe power outages. Known as "Hurricane Elvis" by residents, it knocked out power for over 750,000 people. #tnwx

We wish we had better news. This heat wave will continue into early next week. Take frequent breaks in the shade or AC Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles Wear lightweight, light-colored loose clothing

Tomorrow and Wednesday will be the hottest days of this prolonged heatwave. As the heat continues, heat related illnesses will be on the rise. Stay cool and hydrated! #arwx #mowx #mswx #tnwx

It's going to be a brutal week if you're spending time outdoors across the Mid-South. Highs of 95-100 degrees are likely with heat indices of 105-115 degrees each afternoon. Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect today and should be expected throughout the week.

In case anyone needed a reminder of what time of year it is... #midsouthwx
