Netanyahu says proudly he will never allow there to be a Palestinian state, Smotrich wants to annex the West Bank and Ben Gvir is busy humping his guns. There is no one to negotiate with on the current israeli government side… Macron has been left with no choice.
Seven major US Jewish organizations say they have rejected a meeting with a French minister out of protest over French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement Thursday that he would recognize a Palestinian state. jpost.com/diaspora/artic…
Every few years around 30m Indians compete for 90K jobs on the railways. To be eg a ticket inspector you must do an insane exam on things like algebra, & the WTO. A town has sprung up where ppl do nothing but cram for it. Amazing story (incl sample test) economist.com/interactive/18…
This is phenomenal. Whoever convinced the board “No seriously, this is how you play it” is an all star I want to know: -Who was the agency that pitched it? -Was the board all in or did it take work? -Did they already have Coldplay Ex-wife Paltrow onboard when they pitched?
Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.
We’re living a bigger explosion in actual antisemitism than I thought possible in my lifetime. But instead of giving people clear, reliable tools to distinguish between fair critique of Israel & real antisemitism, key US Jewish organisations like the ADL are whinging about this.

Syria’s interim authorities must demonstrate beyond statements that they are committed to building an inclusive Syrian state. 🔗: buff.ly/Bvojsse
The Economist found a way to splice an Istanbul camii into the carpet scene from When Harry Met Sally. I’m a) totally here for this collage, b) in unsurprised lamentation at the reason why Istanbul is spliced in & c) nominating this graphic as a stock illustration in my life 😂
Researchers analysed the Facebook ties between 1.8bn people to find out. The data set is so huge that it is worth examining econ.trib.al/3IOpAoQ?taid=9… Illustration: James Hosking
This is correct. And it’s appalling. Every American deserves to know what our government is doing in Gaza. The answer requires staring into a very dark part of ourselves that we’d rather wish away. But we need the courage to stare this reality in the face—and to reject it.
The United States is abetting a world-historic atrocity nytimes.com/2025/07/24/wor…
I grew up in KY viewing medical care as a luxury that bankrupted whole families. The first time I went to the doctor in Oxford, where I was on scholarship w/ Abdul, tears of gratitude welled as I was treated w/o a single question about money. Glad he’s running for Senate now!
There’s $225 billion of medical debt in this country. Cancel it all.

“Don’t rank Cuomo” was a remarkably powerful electoral strategy and campaign message, it turns out
An analysis of election data found that 70 percent of voters who filled out their ballots in full left Andrew Cuomo off entirely. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Israel says it has bigger jobs to do than look after foreign journalists in Gaza. I'm not asking them to look after me. I'm just asking them to let me in. I'll look after myself as I do in every war zone I visit. We have freer access to Sudan, Congo & Yemen than we have to Gaza.
Pictures of starving children, open talk of ethnic cleansing by hardliners, and a lack of any real signal from Netanyahu that he has he plans for a different, morally acceptable endgame.
Actually why is the dam breaking on Gaza so suddenly. This has been going on for nearly two years now.
Note that this is a cabinet minister not just some rando
If this isn’t genocidal, nothing is.
I've warned every single Holocaust education org for years at this point. But the issue is they are being led by elderly people who have no way to communicate or bring awareness to the youth and instead orgs like the ADL view people like me as competition or the enemy.
This just feels like it is getting to big to control. Like something awful has been summoned & is just snowballing & snowballing. I am going to do whatever I can, and that includes Holocaust education, as well as education on disinfo campaigns. We all need to take this seriously
One can only hope that Israel will be forced into recognizing that there are two peoples on the land, and the time for an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel is the option at hand. Good for France for taking this important step.
BREAKING: France officially recognizes the State of Palestine.
#France will recognize the State of #Palestine May more of this courage continue. Conflict has failed for decades, it’s time we give statehood a real chance
🚨🚨Macron announces that France will recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in NY in September
The end of an era. Turkey was a haven for freelancers. There’s no life I miss more than that one, in Istanbul. But getting a residence permit to live there has become virtually impossible in the past couple of years. Marriage or full time local employment are about the only ways.
Leaving Istanbul (For Now) After my residence permit renewal was recently denied, I have to leave The City this weekend and can't return to Turkey for 90 days. Here are some reflections on that and what I plan to do next: flanor.substack.com/p/leaving-ista…
What I tell my family in NYC at least once a visit: “I can think of many places I’d go to get away from y’all. Istanbul, Ankara… But no matter what happens, Eric Adams isn’t going anywhere.”
I hear my opponents have travel plans…
There is a very simple solution to this problem. Allow international reporters into Gaza without an IDF escort and censor. Major news organizations like the Associated Press, BBC, CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post have all repeatedly asked for authorization to…
The first minister of Scotland is lying or ill-informed, or both. There are 800 trucks worth of aid waiting INSIDE Gaza for the UN to collect them. After Israel let it in and offered the UN 5 routes to distribute it. But easier to scapegoat.
