Cynical and mad for road. Quomodo me potes odisse cum tam sincerum sum?
A big test for the Irish media over the coming months as to whether they can take off their own ideological lenses and actually subject their preferred candidate to proper scrutiny, or whether the soft coverage of the Higgins presidency is extended to the next Galway socialist
Fascinating how many media commentators who wouldn’t go to Mass in a million years saying Pope Francis didn’t do enough etc
The future of European security is being decided in London and the Irish are at home talking about Dáil speaking rights. So much for taking your place among the nations of the earth...
French Communist party calls for a deal with Moscow. Old habits die hard etc
Je demande à la France @EmmanuelMacron et à l'Union européenne de discuter avec Poutine. Si on laisse Poutine et Trump en tête à tête, ils seraient capables de sceller un accord sur le dos de l'Europe et sur le dos du peuple ukrainien !
Discovering that Butler’s in Terminal 2 is temporarily closed really puts a massive dampener on the the day
The crowd sings the Salve Regina in St. Peter’s Square following the Rosary for Pope Francis 🙏
You'd have to think the SPD's election result has caused more than a twinge of fear in Downing Street

I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!
Did anyone seriously think that something as important as a European leaders meeting would happen on a Sunday? In this continent? Please
UPDATE: Two European officials told POLITICO that the leaders' meeting in Paris will actually take place on Monday. Sikorski said before it would happen "tomorrow", perhaps he was already in a Sunday mood 😉 He later corrected himself: x.com/sikorskiradek/…
Has anyone asked Michael D Higgins his view on Trump rolling over for Putin? Maybe we don’t have to
🧵So let’s talk about that Fidias vs Politico podcast. 2/3 of it felt like morbidly watching a car wreck, although the end was actually interesting. But what made it so fascinatingly weird ? 1) Role confusion and 2) "UwU" populism. My 2 cents 👇
I Confronted the Journalists from @POLITICOEurope
This week Ireland, alongside 13 Member States, supported input into the forthcoming Single Market Strategy👇 The Single Market is the EU’s fundamental competitive advantage🇪🇺
🇸🇪, 🇫🇮, 🇨🇿 and 🇳🇱 take the lead - with support from in total 13 EUMS – to propose concrete input for the new horizontal Single Market Strategy to be presented soon by the European Commission. Find the letter below👇
So the "should we care for poor Americans or poor foreigners first?" framing seems like distraction from the more primary fact that the ordo amoris in no way governs our nation's approach to private wealth. As @TerenceJSweeney pointed out, St. Aug was opposed to big inheritances.
It seems difficult to have a fruitful talk about the justice of caring for the needs of people from other places through the lense of the "ordo amoris" if we also don't talk about how private individuals amass insane amounts of wealth.
Impressive result for FG. 4 seats on 3.1 quotas while FF have 3 seats on 3.4 quotas. Second panel where FG have beaten FF
FG incumbent Maria Byrne defeats Labour challenger Angela Feeney by a teeeeny amount - barely over one-tenth of a vote - and that should be the final 11. Feeney has sought a recount of that last count just in case one ballot paper (which would be enough) was misallocated. #se25
My twitter feed is all politicised St Augustine and 22 votes in the Agricultural Panel. The algorithm is laughing at me
Indeed. It takes some amount of mental gymnastics to celebrate women by erasing an actual woman who existed in Irish history

It is shocking to think that in Ireland a protest as inoculate as turning your back can lead to your forced removal. We tolerate terrorist flags on our streets but remove Jewish people from holocaust memorials. It’s unbalanced and the rest of the world sees it.
I am a Jew from Ireland. To watch Irish Jewish people being forcibly removed from a Holocaust Memorial Event, after the President of Ireland decided that was an appropriate time to preach about Gaza, is sickening. Ireland has become a shadow of its former self.
