My friend and fellow Miami Showband survivor, Des Lee, has written his autobiography called ‘My Saxophone Saved My Life’ which will be launched at Hodges Figgis, Dawson Street, Dublin, on Monday, July 28th at 6pm. I look forward to seeing many of our friends there to support him.

And another year has passed. The days, weeks & months roll onwards but the events of 24th July, 1974 mean our family remains tied to a series of moments in time. Tied to moments of brutality & injustice visited upon a man who wanted the best for all who lived in his community:

The survivors of The Miami Showband massacre have invited every TD and every member of Seanad Éireann and every member of The Northern Ireland Assembly to join us on July 31st to celebrate the beautiful lives of our northern and southern, Catholic and Protestant band-mates.

While flowers left at the Miami Showband monument on Parnell Square in Dublin on the 50th anniversary of the massacre are very much appreciated, we would prefer that a donation be made to Irish Cancer Society cancer.ie
