The Republican Party of Minnesota has brought a video of the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party's chair to a wider audience—their pirated copy of the video has reached more viewers than the original. Once the spin fades, will some Minnesota Republicans wish they had a chair like that?
This is an absolute must-read.
I spent a year visiting with a middle school class of new immigrant students, as national politics took an anti-immigrant turn. Here's their story. sahanjournal.com/education/immi…
There is video of the convention voting on this question. Sowing disinformation seems desperate and futile.
No one has asked the obvious question yet, so I'll ask it myself (and answer it). Q: Do I really think anyone believed the claim about height? A: This wasn't intended to generate belief, it was intended to generate outrage. Was anyone's outage stoked? Surely.
It's also just plain *wrong* to say it was the chair's judgment as to which side held their badges the highest. The judgement was of number, not of height.
But hey, those cuts to important, congressionally appropriated funding could be used to cover some tiny fraction of the tax cuts for the wealthy.

If your organization can't handle your being gone baking cookies or using your vacation time any other way you darn well please, then it can't handle your being struck down by illness or injury. The lack of suitable continuity of leadership is the problem, not the cookies.
🧵NEW: WEC appointees yesterday questioned why the former Madison clerk was absent as 193 ballots were missing. Records obtained by Votebeat show she was having a baking "staycation" amid the snafu, and when she returned to work she had staff deliver cookies around the city
Nekima Levy Armstrong posted on Facebook that she will not rank either Frey or Fateh, explaining why she disfavors both. That's her choice but means if the final round is those two, she's not expressing herself as to which she disfavors less. A reminder for all of us about RCV.
Sure, it isn't right that the RPM lifted taylr's video and didn't even credit her. But by putting the full speech not only here, but also on their Facebook page, they've brought it to a much wider audience. Doing so for the sake of one little bit of it is ... a choice.
MN gop are thieves. they stole this video because i have them blocked so they couldn’t QRT me
Prediction: The November 4, 2025, Minneapolis election is going to have really high voter participation, by municipal election standards. That's a good thing.
If the Minneapolis DFL convention had ended with no endorsement, it would have been *really* easy to blame that on the tabulation delay.
This is a rather vacuous statement. Of course the election will be decided in November rather than July. That's how it works. And Frey went into the convention saying he wasn't going to drop out even if someone else was endorsed. So it's no surprise that he is continuing.
I want to thank everyone who showed up to support my campaign. This election should be decided by our entire city, not by a handful of delegates. I look forward to a full debate with Sen. Fateh about our records and visions for our Minneapolis's future. Onward to November!
Ouch.
Notice that that screenshot didn’t include the “No Endorsement” option which is different from “Abstain.” Under convention rules, all ballots are supposed to have a “No Endorsement” option. After the ballot went live, chair advised delegates to go back and resubmit a ballot
I can understand the desire to proceed without debugging all the failures to receive confirmation, which could be due to spam filtering or a million other possibilities. But in that case, in 20/20 hindsight it would have been wiser to skip the confirmation email feature entirely.
To narrate this a little bit: Many people who voted haven't received an email confirmation from the practice ballot filled out earlier on a dummy question. A small number of delegates say they never got this confirmation email, and thus distrust the system
What an amazing world we live in. The QR code pulls up the right ballot on my phone on a rooftop patio nowhere near the convention. All I'm missing is a ballot code.
The first endorsement ballot is live
Good news! We’ve wrapped up work early and have resumed light rail service in St. Paul. If you are headed to the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival, review your transit options at: metrotransit.org/yachtclubfesti…
Amazing how often Nix v. Hedden is relevant.
Practice ballot time.
I have publicly questioned the wisdom of having a DFL endorsing convention for Minneapolis, but I want to equally publicly express my respect for those making it happen and appreciation for those allowing me to follow along from a rooftop patio. Thanks for doing the work.
I had originally read the agenda as calling for mayor endorsement to be complete by 2pm but now think it meant started by then, so they're less than 30 minutes behind schedule.
We’re moving on to the mayoral endorsement now. Jacob Frey, Omar Fateh, DeWayne Davis, Jazz Hampton, and Brenda Short are nominated. We are on candidate speeches now.
Note the tentative agenda with 2pm cutoff for endorsement of a mayor. Note the current time after delay convening. Note the necessity of 30 minute prayer break and the proposal to allow up to 10 minutes presentation and up to 10 minutes Q&A to each of 5 candidates. Do the math.
Here’s the tentative agenda for today. drive.google.com/file/d/1Mxjbag…
I read this article as suggesting the key question is whether the contest coalesces to a two-way race. But my amateur take is that the real things to watch are the proposed 2pm deadline (with potential dilatory behavior) and whether Frey is over 40% on the first ballot.
Will the Minneapolis DFL endorse a democratic socialist for mayor? It could happen Saturday. startribune.com/omar-fateh-min…
