Canada should impose a 25% export tax on Canadian exports of oil, electricity, and lumber to the US. They can’t switch away from them easily so they will have to pay them. Gas prices in the US will go up quickly. The idea that Canada has no leverage is nonsense.
As a tourist I really like this place. Nice people, perfect beer, amazing Pinakothek. As a historian and politician the only thing I can say today is: MUNICH. NEVER AGAIN.
Pleased to find that my regular grocery shopping list contains exactly one American product (Colgate) for which there are alternatives.
When you ask ChatGPT to write a damning review of your own manuscript, it'll perfectly impersonate a reviewer who really does not want you paper to be published but infuriatingly, has nothing specific to criticize.
Best estimates show that raising total fertility by 0.2 points requires an increase of spending on family-friendly policies by 1% of GDP. To bring the total fertility rate in Europe to 2.1 (from 1.3 now): 4.5% of GDP. GLWT. (doi.org/10.1257/jep.31…)

If you worry that AI will make white collar jobs redundant, worry a bit less. There will always be implementations of AI that create more work for humans, like Concur's feature to extract text from receipts.
Tell me how that is not a good thing, no matter what you think about Trump or DOGE or Musk. on.ft.com/43nGrY5
JD Vance’s cousin Nate Vance on why the Vice President is misguided on Russia: I personally witnessed them shooting their own troops… it’s has happened quite a bit. They are not our allies and they never will be.

If Trump really revokes the status of Ukrainian refugees, let them come to Canada. Much of this great country was built by Ukrainians who had to flee a dictatorship.

Probably a good idea to offer to Trump that we'll increase defence spending to 5% of GDP. Seems like a good idea anyway if we're next to a big unfriendly nation.
As it happens, Canada has a trade deficit in fentanyl with the US.
Pay attention 🇨🇦.
Mexico and Canada are preparing retaliatory tariffs, but that's a mistake. In 2018, China had the optimal response to US tariffs, which was to simply let its currency fall in a full offset to US tariffs. That protects exporters with little risk of escalating the trade war...
Let’s not withhold our oil and electricity. That’s silly. Let’s just put a 25% export tax on it. There are no winners in this game but you need to have some leverage, and that will drive up gas and electricity prices in the US by a lot while Canada still makes money.
