A special moment and throwback to my MSt presenting @engfac @UniofOxford on Wilde, ‘moral pestilence’ and epidemic influenza in the 1890s (at Wilde’s university) as part of @MEDEP_CHANSE @EUCHANSE for @BAVS_UK @BAVS_PGs #BAVS2025
A busy conference season continues on the Media and Epidemics project ⬇️
On Thursday at the @BAVS_UK conference I’ll be on the Wilde panel discussing ‘moral pestilence’, miasma, contagion, the 1890s influenza epidemic, and immorality as an ‘Aesthetic condition’ for Wilde, Thomas Mann, and Arthur Symons! Part of the @MEDEP_CHANSE @EUCHANSE project 🦠📖

Considering my research on historic #influenza epidemics for @MEDEP_CHANSE, the launch of the @ukhsa Priority Pathogen tool is essential preparation as (prior to #COVID19) the UK had been planning for an influenza (not coronavirus) pandemic so a broader watchlist is key! ⬇️🦠
Today @UKHSA published a new priority pathogen reference tool to monitor and prioritise the 24 infectious diseases which pose the greatest threat to UK #publichealth ⬇️🦠
