I’m waking up to this, feeling sick to my stomach, and also conversely seeing how God is using this trial to hold up a mirror to our denomination and its leadership. It’s not pretty. But better the ugly truth than a whitewashed lie. Lord have mercy on us.
In case you've not seen, this story is an abomination if true: tl;dr - ACNA leadership gave court member access to prosecutor files, which it then improperly used in court, prompting prosecutor resignation, and then prosecutor assistant fired. Presentment and resignation must…
American Anglicans following the trial of Bp Stewart Ruch may be curious about ACNA canonical structures for bishop misconduct. A while ago I wrote this piece showing ACNA's canons to use old TEC canons as source material, with higher barriers to entry & overall looser processes.
The more I learn about the robust governance in @iamepiscopalian, the more it’s hard to understand the chaos in the ACNA as anything but intentional.
💯💯💯And at this point, 15 years in, @The_ACNA is not really “young” anymore. (And that’s not considering that many of these bishops have been at it for 20-25 years). When do we stop using that excuse? More accurate to say: we didn’t prioritize these things.
At this point it's abundantly clear that #ACNA has a transparency problem.
The thing that's going to get lost in this horrifying story is that the traffickers were the parents of the kids. This is why this is a crime that's so insanely hard to stomp out.
At least 10 children between the ages of 3 and 15 were held in an underground bunker in central Alabama and sexually exploited, tortured and trafficked, according to the local sheriff’s department. Seven arrests have been made, with more expected. wapo.st/3IL6BNO

Tangentially, regarding your comments to the effect that ACNA has had a problem of "building the plane while flying it", I've thought lately that really is no excuse for how apparently not up to the task the Cons & Canons are for proper governance. ACNA may be young, 1/2
Turbulence continues in the ACNA church trial of Bishop Stewart Ruch as the newly appointed prosecutor is accused of links to key figures in the church planting group implicated in the allegations. religionnews.com/2025/07/24/new…
The ACNA got away with it in the PRT appointments—why wouldn’t they try it again?
If this is what "careful vetting" looks like, one would hate to see a rush job. From the time the ACNA announced the search to the time they announced the appointment it was just over 24 hrs. That isn't credible and the results speak for themselves.
"I can be grateful that Rachel Thebeau blew the whistle AND remember that both of you were vicious to @acnatoo & the 3 PRT members who resigned, @frandrewgross." I am grateful for Thebeau speaking up, if it's true. However, Abp. Foley Beach's administration's handling... sucked.
