“A masterly intervention that should be on reading lists everywhere as a primer for those struggling to envision transformative alternatives for #media and #democracy.” @bzelizer, Annenberg School for Communication Natalie Fenton’s ‘Democratic Delusions’ is out now!
‘Every billionaire is a policy failure’ - Oxfam. Not really a controversial position. Yet at the BBC that’s apparently enough to make journalists fall off their chair. 🙄
I find the astonishment being expressed in defence of billionaires here extraordinary, really. I don't think it's outrageous or even radical to aspire to live in a society without excessive wealth, any more than it is to aspire to a society without excessive poverty. (1/2)
This is the true AI doomerism. Not the stuff about a rogue AI enslaving humanity, but rather using AI as an ideological tool to justify the capitalist nihilism of maximum extraction by claiming its the only solution for planetary collapse.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt says energy demand for AI is infinite and we are never going to meet our climate goals anyway, so we may as well bet on building AI to solve the problem
Come work with me at @CamSociology - we're hiring a Assistant/ Associate Professor in Sociology!!! jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/48361/
