The United States fomented a CIA-run faux coup against Mosaddegh because he wanted to return Iran’s oil rights to its people after decades of abusive resource theft by the US & UK. Mosaddegh died under house arrest, and with him Iran’s hopes for democratic liberal government.
Now is the perfect time to remember Mohammad Mosaddegh. He was elected as Iran's Prime Minister in 1951. He was incredibly liberal for the time - he embraced democratic principles and sought to place limitations on the Shah's power. He was also a supporter of secularism.
