Incoming Associate Professor of Computer Science and Psychology @ Princeton. Posts are my views only
I'm joining Princeton as an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Psychology this fall! Princeton is ambitiously investing in AI and Natural & Artificial Minds, and I'm excited for my lab to contribute. Recruiting postdocs and Ph.D. students in CS and Psychology — join us!

This is amazing software for running behavioral studies that the Gureckis lab has been working hard on, and is a successor to the popular psiTurk. Check it out!
Today we open-sourced a new project for developing behavioral experiments online. It is called Smile. Announcement of v0.1.0: todd.gureckislab.org/2025/07/22/s... Smile has been used internally in my lab for several years and has substantially increased our productivity.
Does vision training change how language is represented and used in meaningful ways?🤔 The answer is a nuanced yes! Comparing VLM-LM minimal pairs, we find that while the taxonomic organization of the lexicon is similar, VLMs are better at _deploying_ this knowledge. [1/9]
📢 I'm looking for a postdoc to join my lab at NYU! Come work with me on a principled, theory-driven approach to studying language, learning, and reasoning, in humans and AI agents. Apply here: apply.interfolio.com/170656 And come chat with me at #CogSci2025 if interested!
Excited to see our Centaur project out in @Nature. TL;DR: Centaur is a computational model that predicts and simulates human behavior for any experiment described in natural language.
Thrilled to see our TinyRNN paper in @nature! We show how tiny RNNs predict choices of individual subjects accurately while staying fully interpretable. This approach can transform how we model cognitive processes in both healthy and disordered decisions. doi.org/10.1038/s41586…
At NUS, I'll be starting the Cooperative Systems & Intelligence (CoSI) lab to scale rational approaches to cooperative AI that are safe+reliable by design - for both individual AI assistance & the cooperative infrastructure we need for an increasingly automated future.
We’re proud to announce three new tenure-track assistant professors joining TTIC in Fall 2026: Yossi Gandelsman (@YGandelsman), Will Merrill (@lambdaviking), and Nick Tomlin (@NickATomlin). Meet them here: buff.ly/JH1DFtT
AI in the wild? This tray tissue I was given at a restaurant is full of errors and hallucinations…!
📣 Life update: I'm joining the University of Cambridge this fall as an Assistant Professor and as a Fellow in Computer Science at @Kings_College. Excited to (re)join the @Cambridge_Uni community!
🧠 Does AI have a role to play in pure mathematics—the kind still worked out on blackboards over decades? To interrogate this question, @nytimes spoke to IAS scholars from diverse disciplinary perspectives, including @patrickshafto and @alondra: nytimes.com/2025/06/19/sci…
Thrilled to announce I’ll be joining @PurdueCS as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2026! My lab will work on AI thought partners, machines that think with people rather than instead of people – I'll be recruiting PhD students this upcoming cycle so reach out & apply if interested!
I hope this state of affairs changes. the exchanges between academia and industry were wonderful and vibrant, before the doors closed.
From about 2013-2022, the highest impact thing you could do for AI in the tech industry was publish in academic venues. You didn't have to choose between climbing the ladder and doing open science. Now that world is gone, and I'm still not sure how to navigate this new world.
Congrats to all winners and whoohoo @NYUPsych !! 🎉🎉 @BlancoElorrieta @davidpoeppel
Join us in congratulating our Award Recipients: Esti Blanco-Elorrieta, David Poeppel, and Jacob Momsen! 👏 #SNL2025 Learn more here: 2025.neurolang.org/awards-informa…
Disturbing when ChatGPT mixes with mental health issues. Continuing to expand context for chats isn’t always for the better. Hope that OpenAI and others are working hard on this issue. nytimes.com/2025/06/13/tec…
So impressed by Professor @orussakovsky starting her keynote talk by highlighting her research team. We need more of this in our community @WiCVworkshop @CVPR @Princeton @PrincetonCS #wicv #CVPR2025
