The rich must pay their fair share. But there is nothing progressive about policies that lose more than they generate. That is lost £ for working class families and public services. Beware silver bullets. Voters know they are b****s. Nothing damages trust more than a promise…
Politicians need the courage to reject silver bullets like a wealth tax ✍️ @joshsimonsmp politicshome.com/opinion/articl…
170 new homes? Splendid! Maybe we should round that up to a nice 200

Labour's new version of 'levelling up' will see up to 350 neighbourhoods get funding for youth centres, libraries etc Idea is to undo the most visible impacts of the austerity era MPs champing at the bit to show govt making an impact Story @theipaper: inews.co.uk/news/politics/…
Britain stands at a revolutionary moment. For too long politics has failed those it was meant to serve. A year ago we came together to change that. Today we set out a bold vision to rebuild the economy and restore the democratic contract with the British people. 1/
Sir Keir Starmer needs “an extra injection of radicalism” on issues such as planning liberalisation to stop Nigel Farage from becoming prime minister, according to an influential group of Labour MPs thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Very easy to say 'voters won't notice some minor concessions' but they notice a system with results like this. There's no lobby for the ppl whose family died on this road, their lobby is meant to be when they vote in govt to change it all. They need to come first, always.
On Thursday night, we heard that government was making big concessions on its planning bill, putting lots more controls on its nature recovery plans. I find this disappointing. And to explain why, I have to tell a story I’ve been holding off from sharing.
— @LabourGrowth Chris Curtis has a more market-realistic view “The fiscal position isn’t something we can just wish away. Bond markets don’t believe in fairy tales” Says govt must “confront difficult tradeoffs” not “retreat into comfortable narratives” bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
"I think a lot of things are shit. We need to unshitafy it as quickly and as radically as possible." Labour MP @chriscurtis94 says Farage "could be running this country" if the gov't don't urgently address the public's concerns. @maitlis | @jonsopel
How do we kickstart a tram building revolution? By bringing down the cost of building new lines. Trams can unlock growth in the UK's cities, but as @chriscurtis94 raises, it currently costs twice the European average to build a kilometer of track in the UK.
£125m. For a tunnel. For bats. That probably doesn't work. The system has created insanity like this while the British people's priorities - lower bills, higher wages, thriving towns and the next generation - have been ignored. We're putting an end to that. Never again.
