Claire Waxman OBE addresses barriers to justice and support to help improve victims' experiences #VictimsVoice. In emergency call 999 & non emergency call 101.
Today I publish the London Victim Attrition Review — a landmark study exposing why so many victims disengage from the justice system. The findings are stark: the system is failing victims. We cannot accept this status quo. Victims deserve better. london.gov.uk/programmes-str…
Too many victims of sexual offences are re-traumatised by their experiences in court. @Law_Commission's proposed reforms could change this, and safeguard victims' privacy, dignity and rights throughout the justice process. My full statement⬇️
We have published our recommendations to reform the law relating to evidence in sexual offences prosecutions. Find out more and read the full report, including an overview of the recommendations, on our website: lawcom.gov.uk/news/new-measu…
Exactly one year on from my London Stalking Review, we’ve already made important progress: 🔹 Stalking Protection Orders (SPOs) will soon be available on conviction 🔹 Working closely with Govt on reviewing stalking law 🔹 @hmcpsi agreed to review CPS response to stalking
Ground-breaking new research by @MOPACLdn shows the scale of stalking and how the justice system is struggling to tackle stalkers and protect victims. The London Stalking Review makes clear recommendations to help drive change london.gov.uk/media/106258/d… telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/07/2…
Very positive meeting with Solicitor General @LucyRigby this morning, discussing the findings of my Victim Attrition Review and progress made with the Victims Right to Review scheme. We also discussed public understanding of sentencing and increased access to the ULS Scheme.

Last week’s report on the normalisation of antisemitism was shocking. This weekend I saw appalling footage of a young Jewish girl in London victimised simply for who she is. Hate like this cannot be ignored. Police must take a zero-tolerance approach to hate crimes. @CST_UK
Today we have launched a landmark report of our Commission on Antisemitism, chaired by Dame Penny Mordaunt and John, Lord Mann. Here are our 10 recommendations. Head to bod.org.uk/antisemitism-c… to read more.
Kate Kniveton took a risk speaking out about the failings of the family courts. She, like many others, was advised to maintain contact between her child and the abuser, fearing accusations of “parental alienation.” Her documentary airs Sunday ITV 10:20pm. thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2025-0…
69% of rape victims withdraw before their case even reaches court. The justice system is failing. If we want to keep people safe, we need faster justice, access to better support, and a system that doesn’t retraumatise victims. We need urgent change. standard.co.uk/news/crime/vic…
My Victim Attrition review found migrant victims face additional barriers to justice. Without a ‘firewall’ between police & immigration, victims with insecure status often feel unsafe reporting crime. And when they do, poor interpretation services leave many unheard & unsupported
Too many victims feel forced to walk away from justice. New @LDNVictimsComm shows why: the system is convoluted and draining. It also shows what works: if we want victims to stay engaged, we must invest in the services that support them. My statement: victimscommissioner.org.uk/news/london-vi…

Thank you to @BBCWomansHour for having me on to discuss my latest report on why victims are quitting the justice process. Thanks to ‘Barbara’ for bravely sharing her experience — a powerful reminder of why the reforms I’m calling for are so urgently needed bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…
In my @Channel4News interview with @cathynewman, I exposed a criminal justice system in crisis and called for urgent reform: 🔹 Victim Care Hubs to help navigate justice 🔹 Bold action to clear the court backlog 🔹 More action from Police to tackle victim withdrawal
This morning I spoke to @BBCRadioLondon about my new research on the alarming number of victims who have little option but to withdraw from seeking justice. My call is clear: we must radically transform the way we deliver for victims in the criminal justice system.
Thanks to @cathynewman and @Channel4News for covering my new research on the alarming number of victims quitting the justice process. Deep gratitude to ‘Lucy’ for bravely sharing her story. Victims’ engagement in the justice system is key to public safety channel4.com/news/exclusive…
Tune in to @cathynewman on @Channel4News at 7pm tonight for a first look at my London Victim Attrition Review, out tomorrow. It reveals why so many victims are forced to walk away from the justice system— leaving offenders free to act with impunity. Urgent reform is needed.

I welcome @HMCPSI’s inspection of the CPS’s handling of rape cases. Disappointed to see not enough progress has been made to fully implement Operation Soteria. Consistency in early advice and more effective case progression still needed to deliver swifter justice for victims.
Today we have published a report into @CPSUK’s handling of rape cases. Inspectors found that CPS needs to urgently improve its decision making and handling of these cases at the pre-charge stage. We have eight recommendations for CPS to implement hmcpsi.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/report/a-thema…
Just 25% of domestic homicide review recommendations are implemented. Bereaved families can wait years for these reviews — only to see no change. If Govt wants to halve violence against women and girls in the next decade, it must address these failings. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
Last week, I met Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer alongside the families of Zara Aleena, Sabina Nessa & Jan Mustafa. These brave women held the PM to account on ending VAWG. @psych_iamfarah said he gave her ‘hope of real change for the first time’ ⬇️ independent.co.uk/voices/zara-al…

Thank you @sarahsackman for highlighting the devastating impact of court backlogs on victims. Every day of delay denies them justice and deepens their trauma. The Government must act now to deliver urgent reform and restore trust in a timely and effective justice system.
Behind every court case is a human story. A victim who has been let down by our growing backlogs. It is our mission to deliver swifter justice for victims.
With trials in London delayed until 2029 and victims left in limbo, the Leveson review is a clear call to action. These reforms are urgent. Govt must act now to ease the backlog and ensure swifter justice for victims. My statement ⬇️ gov.uk/government/pub…
