Most people in Houston don’t even know this, but a fascinating bit of HOU lore is that a portal to a fantasy world opens in the witching hour every Sunday where it is possible to believe winners of multimillion $ campaigns care about the opinions of a failed perennial candidate
On the latest edition of “What’s Your Point?” Commentator @BillKingHouston calls out Harris County Commissioners @LesleyBrionesTX & @AdrianGarciaHTX for a series of tax-and-recklessly spend votes cast ahead of their re-election campaigns. @FOX26Houston
Toll road cash grab isn't fair for Harris County | Editorial houstonchronicle.com/opinion/editor…
If I were @ChronOpinion, I would be pretty pissed if I was given misinformation and my editorial with that misinformation was being shopped around the #txlege to promote bad policy
Members of #txlege should know that anyone saying Harris County has agreed to $25m year on SB2722 has misinformation. We remain committed to good-faith negotiations for a data-driven reimbursement approach, but all members of Commissioners Court are still opposed.
Wonder if Whitmire’s attitude toward Mayor Turner will change if the bailout bill (SB2722/HB5177) doesn’t pass #txlege and Whitmire has to rely on $107m of the reserves Turner gifted him to plug the gaping holes in his proposed budget?
Genuinely curious what the Mayor thinks a balanced budget is #txlege
"The document presented by the administration, however, showed a gap of $107 million between projected revenue and expenditures. That would require tapping into the city's fund balance..." houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/…
More opinions than viewers, that’s for sure
Congrats to @GrooganFox26 & "What's Your Point?" for reaching 500 episodes! Now THAT'S a lot of political opinions. Don't miss the milestone episode this Sunday at 7am on FOX 26 & FOX LOCAL.
Harris County loves Commissioner Shea, looking forward to working with her

Commissioner @AdrianGarciaHTX doing the @goodgovtpodcast on receiving a @NACoTweets Best of Category Award for the Armand Bayou Nature Center expansion. You should listen @evan7257, he mentions the Ike Dike

The major bail legislation from this session actually gives Harris County Democratic Judges more discretion over bail decisions
.@harrisdemocrats, you keep using that word ("safety"). I don't think it means what you think it means. The TxLege wouldn't need to keep passing bail reform legislation if your judges were serious about ending the revolving door at the courthouse.
Well!
This “proactive” step comes after commissioners 1. Waited until the end of the session 2. Did a poor job of defending their position 3. Resorted to threatening lawmakers 4. Dying to avoid an audit of those funds
Hmmm
The way commissioners are handling the Harris County Toll Road bill is amateurish
How does someone spend 40 years in the legislature and just have no strategic thinking, you can’t just go “more city county collaboration” and then unprompted kick the county in the teeth and expect everything to be sunshine and rainbows
This morning, the Houston Chronicle reported comments from Mayor Whitmire where he stated that Harris County offered him $25 million, but he preferred $50 million. I want to be clear: at no point has Harris County Commissioners Court offered to cut $25 million per year from our…

after changes to the proposal all of the harris county commissioners remain staunchly opposed to legislation to county move toll road money to the city of houston : bit.ly/43t2WuD

Guess Harvard Law doesn’t teach Gideon v. Wainwright
Duplicative services abound throughout the county...A teenager can max out a credit card, managing a budget is what our elected officials are expected to do (we don't need to be spending on public defenders and court appointed attorneys or the massive team that supports…
“Hot lava.” Just a few more days to see if a toxic bill to bail out the City of Houston is enough of a priority to spend hours of floor time on in the dwindling time left in sessiom #txlege
texas house transportation votes to advance bill to take 25 million per year from harris county and give it to the city of houston: bit.ly/457Zgkr #txlege
Today, Commissioner Garcia was invited to speak to @BayTran1’s annual State of the Counties event. He highlighted area projects impacting the tri-county area & concerns about #txlege bill that would divert Harris Co Mobility funds to bail out the City of Houston’s budget deficit
What does that even mean, “most of the bill does not affect the City of Houston?” It sure impacts the residents of Precinct 2 who live in the City, who will lose millions of transportation infrastructure dollars to bail out the City’s budget mess.
Today, Mayor John Whitmire thanked @TeamBettencourt & the members of the Texas Senate for passing SB 2722 with a large bi-partisan majority relating to the Harris County Toll Road Authority @HCTRA. While most of the bill does not affect the City of Houston, there was a clear…
This is in response to someone talking about a county project literally in city limits. Precinct 2 alone has spent more than $40m in the city in the last few years. Such a dishonest and disappointing response.
People living in the city limits pay county taxes and drive the toll roads.
