tMAVEN is officially out! Catch the peer-reviewed version of the paper in @BiophysJ!
The peer-reviewed version of the paper describing our new tMAVEN single-molecule data analysis software platform is now out in @BiophysJ! Congrats to #AnjaliVerma, @KorakRay, #MayaBodick, and @ckinzthompson! See comments below for download info! 1/4 authors.elsevier.com/a/1iYih1SPT7rw5
My co-first author paper now out in @Nature SWR1 specifically exchanges H2A/H2B dimers for Htz1/H2B dimers in nucleosomes. Here we show double dimer exchange can be processive, explaining how SWR1 ‘proofreads’ dimer identity in a nucleosome. nature.com/articles/s4158…
💎Brilliant new work from @RuedaLab, @MRC_LMS @ImperialInfect & @ICStructBio in @Nature uncovers how the SWR1 enzyme reduces genome instability by ‘flipping’ nucleosomes over to modify histones on each side. bit.ly/3NVGZNz
Check out our latest: Using smFRET, we determine an entirely new mechanism for mRNA activation. As part of this work, we assign novel functions for each of the eIF4F components, including a 'hopping' activity of eIF4G and a 'strippase' activity of eIF4A. 🔬biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
check out our new preprint! we solved a new nuclease-blocking viral #RNA structure and found some illuminating similarities across diverse viral families. Thread below ⬇️ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
1. Hi #RNA friends, just in time for the holidays I am excited to share the latest pre-print from my group. We solved the structure of a mysterious viral RNA that resists degradation by host nucleases. A short 🧵 & link below – please also check out the full video! #lovevirology
I have two PhD positions available in my group next year! These projects are looking at how disordered regions alter protein dynamics. One is through the Yorkshire BBSRC DTP, advertisement to come, but more information can be found here: whiterose-mechanisticbiology-dtp.ac.uk/yorkshire-bios…
Check out the latest work from @lapassmore and @RuedaLab, out now! It was a great pleasure working with @palconh and @arthur_pol on this amazing story!
Our latest work on FANCD2-FANCI (D2-I), a complex that helps resolve DNA crosslinks and replication stress, is out! nature.com/articles/s4158… We show D2-I acts as a sliding clamp on DNA, stalling at single-stranded gaps to identify and protect damage sites. @lapassmore @RuedaLab
Sitting here updating my notebook and thinking how much being a wet lab scientist is like being an emo teen again "Dear diary, today I ran a gel. It did not go well"
Congratulations to Quentin Smith for the best Oral Presentation at the Nucleic Acids Forum #NAF2024
Couldn't be online a lot last week cause of the amazing #RNA2024 meeting, but our latest preprint is out! In case you couldn't catch our poster at the meeting (or if you did and want a second look :P), check out our dissection of the UUCG stem-loop dynamics!
New preprint alert! Using a single-molecule field effect transistor (smFET), we characterize the fast folding and unfolding transitions of a single UUCG RNA stem-loop at a time resolution of tens of microseconds. 1/5 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
I am delighted to share the newest work from the @SternbergLab, in which we discover RNA-templated gene creation as a mechanism of antiviral immunity. This is a story for anyone who loves molecular biology, and one that repeatedly left us in disbelief. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…
In (preemptive?) response to all the posts signaling the end of structural biology as we know it

Check out our new review of the state-of-the-art in the methods and applications of smFRET! Incredibly grateful to @taekjip for leading this effort and thankful for working with the amazing @fei_jingyi, @sciSonja, Nam Ki Lee, Sanghun Yeou, and @Sneha_0027! nature.com/articles/s4358…
I think fellow researchers and the science community in general can relate to this most days 🤣👨🔬#chemtwitter #RealTimeChem #chemX #gbbo
