Great piece by Jen Pahlka and Robert Gordon on some promising reform efforts in cities and states across the country. Leaders are making hard choices to prioritize outcomes for people over broken processes and the status quo. nytimes.com/2025/07/22/opi…
The IL bail reform law took effect in September 2023. Causal studies needed to truly understand impact, but clearly this is not what the loudest ideological critics expected.
It's really great that Chicago's murders are down and shouldn't be lost that there are 1000 more men in pretrial detention than last year. Keeping violent people behind bars makes communities safer. Oct 2017 - 7,222 July 2018 - 6,157 July 2019 - 5,945 July 2020 - 4,814 July…
We @Arnold_Ventures are supporting a Marine vet and former warden to create a charter prison, in which a non-profit operates with freedom and incentives to innovate for better outcomes. "Their focus is helping people succeed after release—not simply controlling them while inside"
I’m beginning to think we’re attracting the wrong type of people to run for Congress.
Well, darlings… The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed. From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days. To my supporters: You made this wild…

"The young people who support Mamdani are good people, just putting their efforts towards the wrong solutions. I should know, I was once one of them."
Really glad the Trump administration is prioritizing this. BOP/DOC computer systems not accurately calculating inmates' release dates is a shockingly widespread problem. Lots of people are spending more time in prison than they are required to, because of these errors.
This is a great thing: 'A coalition of five mega-funders, including a non-profit started by Wichita-based billionaire Charles Koch, the Gates Foundation (Bill Gates), and the Ballmer Group (Steve Ballmer), will spend $1 billion during the next 15 years; the mission is to help…
BOP finally got funding to repair its dilapidated facilities and support officers. I hope that funding is not wasted on this. We already have a supermax federal prison in Florence, CO, that no one’s ever escaped from.
Bondi: It could hold middle-class violent prisoners, it could hold illegal aliens. It could hold anything. This is a terrific facility. It needs a lot of work but no one has been known to escape from alcatraz and survive.
A fire chief was shot and killed protecting his family and lots of people are sharing this today. Sick culture.

Mike Rowe: “We’ve been telling kids for 15 years to learn to code.” “Well, AI is coming for the coders.” “It’s not coming for the welders, the plumbers, the steamfitters, the pipefitters, the HVAC, or the electricians.” “In Aspen, I sat and listened to Larry Fink say we need…
Seems to be a disturbing uptick in the number of people who respond to any drop in crime by saying it’s because the police aren’t reporting it.
I’d like to see an analysis of how often prison TVs are tuned to PBS. I’m going to guess it’s less than one percent of the time. prismreports.org/2025/06/03/pbs…
