Ken - Packers Cap
@KenIngalls
I analyze Green Bay Packers salary cap & roster. Help explain the dollars & sense of the team. Also other nerdy, random, or interesting stuff in my brain.
Packers Salary Cap Update - 5/5/2025: Salary Cap: 🟨Current Cap Space: $30.8M 🟥After Draft Picks Sign (2): $28.2M 🟦Effective Cap Space (Regular Season): $14.5M Packers may sign Zach Tom, Devonte Wyatt, and/or Quay Walker to early extensions to use some of the $14.5M bucket.

If you are sharing a number in camp, you can't love your chances. Especially if you are making a position change in year 4 of your NFL career.
NUMBERS UPDATE: Bo Melton is switching to CB, and will wear #16. (Sharing with QB Sean Clifford)
Yeah... a "back the Brinks truck up" thing
Gutekunst said Elgton Jenkins is dealing with "a back thing" and the expectation is that will practice as soon as that's cleared up.
I officially have my Green Bay Packers 2026 salary cap projection in the red after the Zach Tom extension - details to follow once full contract is out. That's with +/- 11 scheduled UFAs coming off the books to extend/replace. They will make it work, but not everyone comes back.
Let's back into the Elgton Jenkins situation from the Packers perspective: They likely don't want to play him at a $20m cash/$24 cap in 2026 entering age 31. In order lower this cap the Packers would need to extend his contract which they likely also do not want to do (3rd…
Neat
Allow us to reintroduce ourselves. Officially unveiling our brand new locker room!
The Packers gave Elgton Jenkins an extension in 2022 worth 8.16% APY as a % of cap at signing to play guard. Today, Zach Tom signed for 7.87% APY as a % of cap at signing to play RT, a more coveted position. Tom’s deal is great for the Packers

He’s getting old (in NFL years) and the Packers aren’t on the business of handing out 3rd contracts very often. These streets are mean once you hit 30.
Did Jenkins play terrible or some? I feel like he a big help in our O line, losing him will be felt surely? Am i geeking rn?
Much lesser priorities than what Tom was - I don’t see Jenkins getting meaningful years added to his current deal, but curious to see how it plays out. Walker may be allowed to walk/test free agency.
You think they extend either walker or Jenkins? Surely a change happens between those two
Too easy
Packers have $34.6m in salary cap space today on paper... effectively $21.3m once we factor getting ready for the regular season and stashing some in-season contingent funds. Plenty of room to get a new Zach Tom deal signed, sealed, and delivered!

I've been AFK for the past few weeks - back now and can't wait for training camp!!
