The @KenClarkSpeed contact length ratio education is very useful if you know how to interpret the data. My main issue is the ability to drill down, as it's very labor-intensive and subject to seasonal changes and differences in practice versus meets. Only use validated data!
Hip torque for the win!
When @KenClarkSpeed released his paper on thigh angular velocity, it got into some heavy math. The illustration reminded me of the 1997 Training for Speed book, & I thought of hip torque calculations from 2003 when I was editing the Forum review with @DerekMHansen years ago.🧵

🚨 Why you can't sprint About an hour into a conversation with Dr. Andrew Huberman on his podcast, Stu McMillan made a bold claim: “You can’t sprint.” He was half-joking. But the point stands—for Andrew, and for almost everyone in the general population. It’s not that they…
The @KenClarkSpeed study illustrated some great points to velocity versus technical considerations. How to use this information? Model your program don’t sprint profile! Map out how you take testing and training data and modify the workouts. Forecasting speed is key.
Sagittal Closed Footpath- The key to running faster is application of force based on the athlete’s abilities. Coordination, eccentric RFD, and body structure determines this and we tend to see coaches focus on cues and drills to problems instead of anatomy and capacity. A 🧵-

Tangential Foot Speed versus Horizontal Speed in longer sprints...
We have taken a deep dive into SMAS scores and how they relate to PSR. The results are probably what you expect! @coachrgrubbs @vuemotion @chrisbramah @KenClarkSpeed @jb_morin @zentrumsport @speed_works_ @SpeedSolutions_ @SportsmithHQ
‼️Speed testing can waste time if misused. ✅Instead, assess sprint gate health—this should automatically develop performance. If not, something’s off. We all have step asymmetries—one leg pushes, the other prepares. Normal. But elite loads can compress joints/pelvis and…
Tangential Foot Speed- If you read the @KenClarkSpeed study on ground speed compared to horizontal foot speed (negative) the relationship is very clear, if you don’t have the juice, it’s hard to run faster due to braking. The key is hip torque, and even elites are deficient. 🧵
🚨Sprint running mechanics are associated with hamstring strain injury. ⚠️Higher scores in the S-MAS➡️new HSI. ‼️1-point increase in the S-MAS➡️33% increase HSI rate. @chrisbramah is changing the game👏 ✅The S-MAS can be easily measured in @MyJumpLab bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/…
🆕‼️ Sprint Running Mechanics & Hamstring Injury Risk ‼️🆕 Our latest research in @BJSM_BMJ explores whether sprint mechanics are linked to past and future hamstring injuries in professional footballers. What did we find? And why does this matter? 🧵👇 bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/…

Off my Twitter hiatus to say this: I was really honored to be invited on to the @hubermanlab podcast. A really enjoyable couple of days. I hope you dig it! youtube.com/watch?v=U3cSnz…
