Thanks @stephendziedzic. "Chaos conveys weakness, not strength".
Charles and colleagues are stating the bleeding obvious here but do so with authority and clarity. Chaos conveys weakness, not strength. Even if you take the most miserably *narrow* frame of reference, the Trump's actions in the Pacific will hurt the US and undermine its position
Please check out our new @AustraliaChair white paper on implications of recent development cuts and tariffs on the Pacific region - and therefore on U.S. national security. @CharlesEdel
A new paper by @CharlesEdel, @KathrynPaik, and @john_auge shows how recent U.S. actions such as aid cuts and tariffs are undermining credibility in the Pacific Islands and creating space for greater Chinese influence in a region critical to U.S. security. csis.org/analysis/shift…
Pleased to offer correspondence for James Curran's piece in this issue of @AusForeign. Certainly a lively back and forth. @AustraliaChair @CSISGeopolitics australianforeignaffairs.com/afa/continenta…

Had such a wonderful time tag teaming with @CharlesEdel to talk to @ClementsCenter summer seminar participants about the evolution of U.S. Pacific policy and why the region is of vital interest to US national security. @AustraliaChair @CSISGeopolitics
Yesterday at #SummerSeminar2025, students heard from @kennaninstitute Director @mkimmage, @UTIntel Director Steve Slick and Senior Fellow Paul Pope, @CharlesEdel & @KathrynPaik of @CSIS, and Founder & CEO of SolidIntel @MegReiss. Stay tuned for more from our week in Beaver Creek!
Secretary Rubio fired State HQ's entire ASEAN team while he was in Malaysia, attending the ASEAN meetings they prepared for him. Glad he liked the meetings, though.
Had a wide-ranging discussion with 26 of my counterparts during the @ASEAN Regional Forum. We talked about threats in the region that impact Americans and agreed to continue addressing them together. We'll find new areas of cooperation to fight transnational crime, shut down…
I first met Marco Rubio in a prison in Libya. I wrote about that unusual story here. And about how he's gone from championing dissidents around the world to overseeing the total retreat of the United States from the cause of defending freedom. contrarian.substack.com/p/marco-rubio-…

This is always a bad move. Even if your #1 priority with China is trade, leaders who show up with business delegations signal a desperate attachment to the Chinese market. So Chinese officials feel safe ignoring asks on unfair trade practices, cyber attacks, Taiwan, Iran…

Had the pleasure of hosting Air Marshal Phillips on Pacific Policy Pulse last week to chat about a critical piece of U.S.-Australian defense industrial cooperation. @AustraliaChair @CSISGeopolitics
Air Marshal Leon Phillips, 🇦🇺’s Chief of Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance (GWEO), joins @CSIS #PacificPolicyPulse to discuss how GWEO can build allied capacity, the challenges involved in doing so, and the relevance of @ArthurLHerman's Freedom’s Forge. youtube.com/watch?v=3yNlsb…
Even outside of US expectations, a real debate is happening in Australia over if their defense spending can deliver what is needed into the future. @AustraliaChair @CSISGeopolitics theaustralian.com.au/nation/defence…
Pleased to welcome Air Marshal Phillips to @CSIS yesterday for an insightful and useful discussion on Australia's GWEO efforts - including critical US-Australian collaboration in this space. @CSISGeopolitics
The @CSIS Australia Chair was pleased to host Air Marshal Leon Phillips, Australia’s Chief of Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO). The roundtable, moderated by @KathrynPaik, focused on Australia’s GWEO efforts and its collaboration with the United States.
Had a great time speaking about Australia's broadening of networks and alliances across the Indo Pacific at the CSIS 15th SCS conference. @SoutheastAsiaDC @AustraliaChair @CSISGeopolitics csis.org/events/fifteen…
Australia’ 2020 defense strategic update demonstrated a shifting sentiment coming out of Canberra, a much clearer articulation of Australia’s responsibility and its agency to proactively shape the region. This update had very pointed language on gray zone activities in the South…
