Microbiologist working on Quorum Sensing, microbiota and microbe-host interactions. Working at @GIMM_Institute
Follow our lab @karinaxavierlab.bsky.social to continue hearing about research on quorum sensing and gut Microbiota our training opportunities such as our Symbnet @SymbNET summer school on host microbe interactions from the 2025 gimm.idloom.events/phd-summer-sch…
Now we are one... starting a new adventure! GIMM - Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine - has just been created by merging IGC and iMM. On the verge of discovery @GIMM_Institute | gimm.pt
RNA world of Prevotella, now Segatella, gut bacteria unfolding! Includes an sRNA essential for colonization. Great work from the @StrowigLab. I am proud to say that three of my former students and postdocs (El Mouali, Tawk, Ponath) contributed to it. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Our preprint "Full Factorial construction of microbial communities" was peer reviewed. We describe a simple protocol for assembling all possible combinations of up to 10-12 different microorganisms using standard lab equipment. Hopefully useful to others! elifesciences.org/reviewed-prepr…
Please join faculty from @YaleBIDS @YaleIBIO and the Microbial Sciences Institute for a Q&A webinar about our faculty searches in computational microbiology and microbe-immune interaction at Yale. October 10, 2024 12p (noon) EST. Registration required: yale.zoom.us/webinar/regist…
Our Faculty Position Opportunity in Metabolism in the school of Life Sciences at EPFL is still open...If your main research topic is metabolism (wet or dry lab), have a look and apply! Women, please also apply 😉, we need you here!💪 epfl.ch/about/working/…
Check out this paper from Sarela @itqbnova and @TypasLab on how the effect of 30 drugs on individual members of the Microbiota, and how the effects can be different in monocultures or in community
We are excited to share our new study led by @SarSarela (now GL @itqbnova) & Michael Kuhn! By comparing the effects of 30 drugs on a 32-species synthetic community and community members in isolation, communal behaviors emerged in 26% of all cases! Link: cell.com/cell/fulltext/…

If you are in Lisbon, come to the last beer hour @IGCiencia, to end this chapter while toasting for even better beer hours with GIMM to continue our wonderful scientific discussion in our patio! Thank you @phd_igc + all IBB students for all the great events!

Pls share: Microbial cell biology faculty position available at Ohio State University
We are excited to announce the publication of our new article today: nature.com/articles/s4158…
The second chapter of my PhD is out! We are bringing new elements for the potential use oof auranofin as a Clostridioides difficile treatment nature.com/articles/s4152…
Looking for a postdoc in Microbial Evolution? Come join the @gordoisabel1 lab at the Gulbenkian - Oeiras - Lisbon. Highly stimulating environment. Looking forward to great applicants, my lab is next door to Isabel, and we are excited for having new neighbors
Are you looking for a pos-doc? We just opened two positions to study bacteria evolution in the gut in Gordo's Lab at the Gulbenkian Institute ;)! See gimm.pt/jobs/postdocto… gimm.pt/jobs/postdocto…
The Goldberg lab is moving to @UCLA Human Genetics summer 2025! Excited for new opportunities and collaborations. We will be recruiting at all levels to work on the evolutionary and population genetics of humans, our primate relatives, and the malaria parasites we share.
A major question in (marine) microbiology is "who eats what" – whether different heterotrophic groups utilize different pools of dissolved organic matter. Shira and Elena added different macromolecular pools to a natural community from the oligotrophic Eastern Mediterranean.
