Says a lot that they're hated for the one thing they actually got right (for 5 minutes). The political class is useless, but the general public are worse.
With the amount of backlash and political damage it caused, they may have just gone balls to the wall and scrapped the triple lock. Polling account would be about the same, but they'd have actually saved a significant amount of cash in the meantime.
For anyone else struggling, 'profit' is the difference between revenues and costs (just Google it, or ask around). And profits are crucial to society because they provide the economic incentive to supply goods and services (see what Adam Smith wrote on this, among many others).
