Member of Parliament: Basildon 1979-1983 & Billericay 1983-1987. President, Facing Allegations in Contexts of Trust (FACT). Private Secretary to Duke of Rutland
As part of @blastfilms ‘George Michael: Outed’ for @Channel4, here is my story of being outed by the media in 1986/1987. It ended my parliamentary career & made me an easy target for Carl Beech’s false claims, which initiated the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Midland.
Congratulations to the Lionesses on their Euros win. History made today with the Lionesses being the first English team to win a major tournament on foreign soil. They have made us roar with national pride!

‘I speak for myself…with an impeccable record in defending the police, I have now come to believe that that blind trust in them was totally misplaced. What has happened to me could happen to anyone. It could happen to you.’ @KHarveyProctor Folk need to wake up to this
My article for @Daily_Express 20 years ago, Jean Charles de Menezes was killed by @metpoliceuk officers. He posed no threat & committed no crime. Those responsible were promoted, honoured, enriched. That is not justice or accountability - it’s betrayal. express.co.uk/comment/expres…
“Thoughts” and “regret” are not enough. In Britain, “thoughts” and “regret” too often become a substitute for responsibility.
Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said: “The events of 22 July 2005 remain a matter of deep regret to the Met and have had a major and lasting impact on counter-terrorism policing in this country. "Twenty years after the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, the thoughts of…
Kansai International Airport in Japan has not lost a single piece of luggage since opening in 1994! Astonishing. Fortunately, I’ve only ever suffered from lost luggage once. Whilst an MP in the 1980s, I travelled to Taiwan with fellow MP, Jill Knight (MP for Edgbaston,…

Hollow words from Sir Mark Rowley. Jean Charles de Menezes was killed. No one was held to account. Those responsible were promoted, honoured, & pensioned off. The @metpoliceuk’s “regret” changes nothing. Without accountability, there is no justice, only betrayal. The Met must…

Can it really be 20 years since the killing by the Met of young Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell Tube? The operation was led by Cressida Dick under the Met leadership of recently deceased Sir Ian Blair. What can one say? #RIP #OTD…
Today marks 20 years since Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent man, was shot dead by @metpoliceuk officers at Stockwell Station. He was 27. He had committed no crime. He posed no threat. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time & paid with his life. Those responsible…

Watching @GMB as @michaelgove praises @gmpolice for “zero tolerance” on serious crime. Really? 44 days since my friend was viciously assaulted in a homophobic attack in Manchester by a bouncer - broken nose which requires surgery, fractured arm, severe concussion/potential PTSD.…
My friend gave a 2.5hr statement to @gmpolice 11 days ago about the vicious, homophobic assault he endured in Manchester 18 days ago. Since then, he’s heard nothing - despite chasing them to update that he has a fractured elbow, but also for an update on the case. I’m also…
After I left office, my successor did some things which were flatly against Conservative policy. For example, he cut some of the tax reliefs on people buying a house. They had relief on the money they had to pay in repaying their loans ... That struck at the very heart of my…
The questions @FACTukorg put to @TUIUK following its ‘safeguarding’ policy & informing me they will not allow me to use their services due to my 1987 conviction for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books & which I, & others with similar convictions, can have…

In @thetimes on Tuesday, following @TUIUK informing me that they will not allow me to use their services due to my 1987 conviction for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books. Under ‘Alan Turning Law’ I can apply to have it expunged.

Absolutely astonished. The BBC becomes ever more holier-than-thou. John Torode sacked from MasterChef over an alleged remark from 8 years ago, which he cannot even recall, nor place in time or context. Outrageous. Perhaps the BBC should examine itself before preaching to…
Opportunities come in many forms. I welcome this investment. Chess changed the course of my life. I failed my 11-plus exam. I only gained entry to Scarborough High School for Boys because the headmaster, Mr Marsden, shared my love of chess & wanted to strengthen the school…
Very pleased to see the government continuing the £1million investment in chess that we launched when I was Prime Minister. Chess isn’t just a great game. It also builds the kind of skills young people need to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive world.
My interview on @TalkTV with @petercardwell on @TUIUK reviving old injustices by banning homosexual men convicted under historical gross indecency laws, including myself who was convicted in 1987 for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books. Under Alan Turning…
Have a listen to this excellent interview with Harvey by Iain Dale: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/har… He should not have to tell his story again and again.
I will be on @TalkTV with @petercardwell at 12:00 to discuss @TUIUK’s recent policy which bans those with child sexual offences from travelling with them. youtube.com/live/iQghpMKi0…
I have been advised by a data specialist, that there is a reasonable argument to be made that @TUIUK’s decision not to allow me to travel with them - through apparent inflexible application of a company policy - involves unfair processing of personal data in contravention of…
Just told by @TUIUK I’m banned from travel due to a 1987 conviction for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books. Under Alan Turning Law I can apply to have it expunged. This is not safeguarding. It’s corporate discrimination against gay men. Outrageous. #LGBTQ+
I understand, & support, the need to protect children & vulnerable passengers. But that duty of care must not be used to perpetuate the kind of institutional discrimination we, as a society, have spent decades trying to undo.
