Has Mamdani said anything about whom he would name as police commissioner, or what kind of person he would like in that job? There is a strong case—substantively and politically, for him—for sticking with Jessica Tisch. Back in February, Brad Lander committed to keeping her.
So movies have become *too ideological* and the solution is to adapt “Atlas Shrugged” and make films that hail “American exceptionalism” and “name America’s enemies.” Got it. semafor.com/article/07/20/…

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.
As best I can tell, this is the only question of genuine public import that remains about Jeffrey Epstein. From a helpful @AdrienneLaF interview with @jkbjournalist. theatlantic.com/podcasts/archi…

Anecdote re: science in the current era: Had dinner last night with a herpetologist who had her NSF grant terminated (illegally, as far as I can tell). She's studying how pythons eat huge meals 1-2x/yr, during which they greatly increase the size of their heart and other organs.
By creating a demented AI that turns out to be a Nazi, Musk has combined the plots of two Kubrick's greatest movies: 2001 and Dr. Strangelove.

Again, this. "Criticality" means "accidental boom-boom". You need bigger facilities if you want and need to produce metal on an industrial scale. But, for weapons production, bigger is NOT necessarily better. Smaller facilities can do the trick for smaller production.
Producing HEU metal requires worrying about criticality and purity, but the process is simple enough that the Department of Defense doesn’t consider HEU metal production a militarily critical technology. Read more here: armscontrolwonk.com/archive/122058…
The administration has argued that the destruction of Iran's uranium metal production lines at Isfahan will set its nuclear-weapon program back by "years." At Arms Control Wonk, I argue it may not even set Tehran back by months. Link in next post.
"his opponent" who was that, again? x.com/Tom_Suozzi/sta…
I had serious concerns about Assemblyman Mamdani before yesterday, and that is one of the reasons I endorsed his opponent. Those concerns remain.
Not a dig, just as an observation, Mamdani is a product of the progressive middle class, what some people call the PMC, or in the old days, "petit bourgeois Menshevik" — similar to Republicans at their founding, Democrats look very 19th century too: oligarchs and the working poor
Mamdani’s base is native-born whites under age 45 with college degrees.
The commentary about NYC Democrats nominating an anarchist-socialist for Mayor omits one point: how unchecked migration fundamentally remade the NYC electorate. Democrats change politics by changing voters. That’s how you turn a city that defined US dominance into what it is now.
Q for @katie_honan, @errollouis, @danarubinstein, @SallyGold, @TweetBenMax, @RossBarkan—or anyone else who knows. Back in February, Brad Lander committed to sticking with Jessica Tisch as police commissioner. What has Mamdani said about how he would fill that job?
