Josh Fenton-Glynn MP
@JoshFG
Labour MP for Calder Valley. Member of @CommonsHealth Select Committee. Mediocre fell runner.
Today Parliament passed the Rare Cancers Bill. This will lead to more focus for developing rare cancer drugs. In this job you have the privilege of turning personal grief into real change. I did that today speaking about losing my brother Alex to a rare cancer earlier this year.
Beyond politics Ive followed boxing for most of my life. Usyk will be remembered as the best heavyweight since Lewis
He has done it again @usykaa! An undisputed champion. A legend. One of our own. Thank you for the strength and inspiration you give to the whole country with every victory. Thank you for stepping into each fight with Ukraine in your heart. Congratulations on the win — to you,…
Today in Parliament I asked about the impact of streaming and AI on small artists in Calder Valley. It came in a debate where one of the Conservative MPs opposite had declared himself a Swiftie, giving me the opportunity to dust off some truly dreadful puns!
Went in to ask about the impact of AI on local performers, decided on hoof to drop three Taylor Swift titles into Hansard. Yes it is the last day before recess
Ed Arger is one of the kindest most thoughtful people in parliament. He was always on top of his brief and I’m sad he is leaving their front bench. The Tory path to being a party of government runs more through people like Ed than social media stars. I hope he gets better soon.
As he prepares for his last parliamentary oral questions from the front bench, I want to put on record my sincere thanks to Ed Argar for serving in my Shadow Cabinet. I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery and return to full health, and so I will be making a few changes…
It’s time to get serious about our water system. In Yorkshire we had floods and now a hose pipe ban with rivers still full of waste. A new regulator is an important first step.
I just spent almost 2 hours trying to speak on the foreign secretary’s statement on Gaza without success. The fact that so many were trying to speak should send a clear message. Parliament wants action on the increasingly clear breaches of international law by Israel’s government
😂😂
Reform are pretending to be tough on crime, meanwhile their newest MP let off a dangerous drunk driver last year and told her: “It is what it is.” You couldn’t make it up.
I’m so pleased to see the UK Labour Government announce an inquiry into Orgreave. My dad was there. He saw what happened with his own eyes. Since being elected in 2019, I’ve been pushing for this inquiry, and I’m so glad it’s finally happening. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
We had some great conversations with residents in Elland today- albeit it has to be said the weather was more agreeable for the morning session. Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk to us today. A lot of enthusiasm for Labour’s policies to tackle antisocial behaviour.

"I am grateful for the Government’s response to our report but have written back to the Secretary of State to request clarity on a number of points which we feel have not been fully addressed." Acting Chair, @PauletteHamilto MP
The social care system in England is broken. We're calling on Government to measure the cost of inaction on reforming the current system and see the sector's wider potential. Read the report: committees.parliament.uk/committee/81/h…
What’s worse here, the design or the message?
The two-child cap keeps things fair for those who work hard and plan ahead. Labour just confirmed they’d rather reward those who don’t.
This week on the health and social care select committee we questioned Wes Streeting on the 10 year plan. Hear I am questioning him about future training routs for doctors and flexibility of medical training.
Thanks also to the APPG on Single Parent Families Chair, officers and members @RupaHuq @JoshFG & @ToniaAntoniazzi for coming along. #SupportNotPunish
Encouraging thread on trainee doctors' satisfaction. Lots more to do but things are improving.
Today the @gmcuk launch their national training survey. The surveys of 50,637 doctors in training and 21,289 trainers can be a canary in the coal mine to tell us the state of the NHS. Here is a thread of 6 charts and what they tell us about the state of the health services
