John Swinney
@JohnSwinney
🏴 First Minister of Scotland, @theSNP Leader, MSP for Perthshire North. Promoted by John Swinney MSP, 17-19 Leslie St, Blairgowrie, PH10 6AH
People in Scotland rightly expect us to focus on delivering practical solutions. I welcome that other parties back our Budget that will grow the economy, strengthen our NHS and deliver winter heating payments. Meanwhile, Labour and Tories are high on rhetoric, low on delivery.
First Minister @JohnSwinney visited Aberdeen to see how local volunteers are breathing new life into Union Street. With @scotgov funding, community-led organisation Our Union Street is helping to bring people and pride back to the heart of the city.
The U.K. should follow the example of France tonight and recognise the State of Palestine. This is essential for peace. The ceasefire and humanitarian aid must start now.
I welcome the announcement by President Macron that 🇫🇷 will recognise 🇵🇸 in September. This is an important contribution towards implementing the two State solution, which offers the only lasting basis for peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
Tackling the climate emergency is a @scotgov priority. At the opening of Neart na Gaoithe wind farm - co-developed by @EDF_power and @ESB_Energy - First Minister @johnswinney saw how offshore wind is powering the transition to net zero.
Exciting privilege to inaugurate one of our offshore wind projects - Neart na Gaoithe - off the coast of Fife and serviced from Eyemouth. It is an amazing feat of engineering and an example of Scotland’s bright energy future.
We're funding regeneration projects to improve high streets across Scotland, like Our Union Street in Aberdeen. First Minister @JohnSwinney met volunteers to hear how this community initiative is breathing new life into the city centre, supported by @scotgov.
The scenes in Gaza are horrifying to watch. Israel is deliberately starving civilians. Children are dying as food and aid are blocked. Nothing can justify it. Enough is enough. The UK government must force Israel to let aid into Gaza, and the killing must stop. Now.
I am very sorry to hear this sad news about Sir Kenneth Calman. He made an enormous contribution to public life in Scotland and I enjoyed enormously my many encounters with him. I express my sympathy and appreciation to his family. bbc.com/news/articles/…
🦄 Say hello to Finnie - the official mascot for the #Glasgow2026 Commonwealth Games, designed by local kids and unveiled with a lot of excitement today. One year until yet another world class event begins in Scotland. Let the countdown begin!

On the final day of @tallshipsabdn First Minister @JohnSwinney met Youth Sail trainees, volunteers and organisers to watch the Parade of Sail. ⚓ @ScotGov is committed to supporting major events that raise Scotland's profile on the world stage and help grow our economy.
⚓️ Great to visit Aberdeen today for the Tall Ships Races. The boats were magnificent and Aberdeen was buzzing with excitement. I really enjoyed meeting the local young trainee sailors who sailed all the way from France - what a life changing adventure!

My letter to UK Gov Minister Steve Reed asking him to retract his false statements about the condition of water in Scotland. IWC was able to report we’re in a much better position than rUk with 87% “high” or “good” status. Public ownership works. scottishgov-newsroom.prgloo.com/correspondence…
If Keir Starmer believes in a respectful relationship with @scotgov, he needs his Environment Secretary to retract his totally inaccurate comments about Scotland’s water. Our rivers are cleaner, our bills are lower - and public ownership delivers for people, not profit. 👇

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jamie McGrigor. We came from different political traditions and often held opposing views, but as an MSP, Jamie was a warm, engaging presence and was deeply committed to the Highlands and Islands. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
