"My daughter turns seven next month. I’ve long accepted that I may never hear her call me mom. I have grieved a million tiny deaths of the things I once assumed would be. And yet she is the most beautiful child I have ever laid eyes on." nytimes.com/2025/04/25/opi…
For my brother Ben’s birthday, I reached out to all of the major 4 professional sports teams and asked them to send a t-shirt as he has started a collection over the last few years. I was amazed at how many responded and what they sent. So I wanted to say thank you. THREAD:
New York’s assisted-suicide bill would enshrine in law a mistaken view of autonomy and suggest that some forms of suffering render life worthless. city-journal.org/article/new-yo…
The DOJ is reportedly investigating whether Illinois “unnecessarily institutionalizes” adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For people in Illinois who rely on this form of care, the investigation threatens their homes, writes @JohnHirschauer.
The Arc, which advocates for people with disabilities, endorses New York's assisted suicide bill. In 1978, the group's Delaware chapter passed a resolution demanding that the federal government pay for the abortions of women carrying disabled children.

Elon would do the world and his audience on this website a great service if he made it clear that the drivers of federal spending are not unspecified "pork" but rather a distinct group of health care and retirement programs that are all extremely popular. x.com/elonmusk/statu…
I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.
We are lucky it was built in the 50s. Ten years later it would have been a disaster. In the 60s the Modernists loved complaining about it.
11.5 million bricks were laid to build America’s Catholic Church. To achieve an original design that was “sunk in tradition yet distinctively American,” architects chose a Romanesque-Byzantine style for the National Shrine. nationalshrine.org #Catholic
Young adults aren’t abandoning religion at the rate their parents did. For some, faith has become a form of rebellion against a culture that rejects traditional values, writes @JohnHirschauer.
She, thinking it was the gardener, saith to him: Sir, if thou hast taken him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith to her: Mary.

"And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink?" theamericanconservative.com/death-of-the-s…

In 1993, Pennsylvania’s P&A filed a lawsuit that culminated in the closure of Western Center. On closure day, the state sequestered parents behind a police line, and shipped disabled residents to undisclosed locations. The P&A’s director called the state’s behavior “exemplary.”
Specifically, ACL supports the work of critical state-level organizations such as State Councils on Developmental Disabilities, Protection and Advocacy Networks (P&As), and Centers for Independent Living (CILs)... (7/11)

The autistic guy ringing me up at Trader Joe’s just spent 5 minutes explaining to me his detailed plan to save college basketball from the impacts of the transfer portal. The people behind me in line were getting very impatient. I refused to budge. Dudes rock.
A great discussion between @JohnHirschauer and @DouthatNYT about the rationality of recognizing the divine.
