You can’t take the desert out of an old sheep man. Bosses Brother, headed out for an overnight camping trip onwhat used to be their winter sheep grounds in the desert.

In the morning, I’m going to have to drink my coffee holding my pinky out because we are now civilized. The boss had all the rugs and carpets steam cleaned in the house today.

Before hayfield time this morning, it was salt and mineral time but way off in the distance, there’s a layer in the Sierra Madres. I didn’t know if it was humidity or a smoke layer from fires someplace. Two Baldy cows, pretending they are moose.

Had a pair get out they got into one of our pastures, but not the one they were supposed to in so taking them back with the Palomino meaning my yellow Can-Am four wheeler I was out numbered two one, but I got them in. Still no clouds in the sky.

A Sandhill coffee club this morning, it’s strange for them to congregate together other than spring or late fall.

In the winter I cuss the cold nights but during the summer I like the cool nights that come with elevation because it’s easy to get the house cooled down.

Haven’t heard from the kid on how bad things are back there.

The Boss’s brother is coming to the ranch for a few days so she made cookies. The best part of being empty nesters is that I don’t have to share the last of the dough with anyone.

It may turn out to be a long summer. This is on the Saratoga side of the continental divide on what everybody refers to as the Snowy Range Road.

Between the two storms, we got a 10th of an inch of rain last night so it kicked me out of the hayfield this morning so we are shredding the pork butts that I had on the pellet smoker yesterday. Then we will get ready for our second happy cow audit, which is on Monday.

At 4/100s at a time it might be awhile before we hit the 12 to 14 inch mark. But we are grateful for each drop of moisture.
