In our aid spend, we need to prioritise, be more efficient, and focus on impact above all else, as I told the International Development Committee. We have to get the best value for money – for the UK taxpayer, and for the people we are trying to help.
We are making sure every penny of the UK's aid budget works harder to tackle humanitarian, health and climate crises, with economic development underpinning it all.
People smugglers are callous criminals who exploit desperate and vulnerable people, putting lives at risk for profit. They fuel a global trade that affects families across the world. We’re launching world’s first dedicated sanctions regime targeting those behind these networks.
🌍 A world-first move from the UK. From tomorrow, people smugglers and those helping them can be hit with tough new sanctions - frozen assets, UK travel bans, and public exposure. We’re going after the networks fuelling this deadly trade, wherever they operate.

We urgently need the blocking of aid into Gaza to stop. As aid agencies are saying today, children are starving and will continue to suffer. This is why the UK is protecting our support to Gaza and the West Bank, including £60m we announced earlier this week.

This is the first sanctions regime of its kind in the world. It targets not just smugglers, but the money, materials, and enablers behind them. A major step to protect the vulnerable and tackle a key cause of irregular migration to the UK ⤵️ gov.uk/government/new…
This terrible conflict in Gaza must end.
The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths. Alongside 25 other partners, the UK message is clear: the war in Gaza must end now. We need an immediate ceasefire, release of all hostages and a full resumption of aid. gov.uk/government/new…
It is horrifying that over 800 Palestinians have been killed seeking aid. The Gaza Humanitarian Fund has failed, as it was clear it would. With 25 other countries, we condemn the inhumane killing of people seeking their most basic needs. gov.uk/government/new…

Great to speak to residents in Woodingdean as part of Labour’s National Campaign Weekend. Huge thanks to Baroness @JennyChapman for joining us 🌹 #labourdoorstep
Deeply concerned by the Israeli Civil Administration’s plan to revive the E1 settlement programme. If implemented, this would critically undermine a future Palestinian state and the path to a two-state solution - crushing the hopes of millions who wish for peace.
Ahmad was in a critical condition after an airstrike in Gaza. At a UK-Med field hospital, he's now had life-saving surgery and physiotherapy. With support from UK government funding, @UKMed is delivering vital healthcare to Gazans and has provided over 500,000 consultations.
Today the @UN Security Council unanimously extended the mandate of @BINUH_UN in Haiti. The UK also co-sponsored @UN sanctions against two violent gangs, in response to escalating violence. These are important steps to support Haiti to restore peace and stability for Haitians.
Reports of women and children killed waiting in line for nutritional supplies yesterday in Gaza are horrific. The UK Government calls for an immediate and independent investigation into this incident. Protection for civilians and unhindered access to humanitarian aid is vital.
