The Netherlands has deployed pre-hospital ECMO for some time, hearing about how some US colleagues are developing their ECLS service from @flaster_harry #ICEM2023

Are you involved in, or considering a career in prehospital care? EPiCC, a new national survey, looks to understand EDI within prehospital critical care, to understand how this could be changed. Click the link and help inform the future of PHEM redcap.aakss.org.uk/surveys/?s=LCH…
Feasibility of Prehospital Partial Z1 REBOA in London. P-PRO, a huge collaborative effort from a multidisciplinary group. So thank you. Targeting the individual patients pathophysiology, time, cardiogenic shock diagnosis/management are ongoing challenges. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamas…
1/2 Patients in the ED are not “waiting for admission” they are “specialist outliers in the ED”. So should be regarded in the same way as specialist ‘outliers’ on any other ward. Our language matters and can change concepts. (This is UK hospital terminology - ignore if not in UK)
Very proud to have been involved in a small part with this paper on triaging patient extrication that’s been led by my fantastic colleagues from @airambulancekss - @eystonvh and @griggs_jo sjtrem.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Can definitely recommend this to any considering! A great department, beautiful scenery and incredibly welcoming ED team.

Of course the ultimate root cause of this is a reduction in number of beds, a reduction in social care provision, and a lack of availability of carers and care homes. You know who to thank for that. However we cannot go on leaving the highest risk patients for ED to manage.
1/ Short 🧵 on lies, damned lies, & statistics I've seen some rather misleading use of statistics on the BBC / Sky today, its not clear whether they dont understand the differences, or they are trying to mislead Please read all & share / RT
Can anyone help me get this out to student paramedics? ⬇️ Shawky started his career as an EMT. Now v senior in Lebanon’s Red Cross, he has more major incident experience than possibly just about anybody else. Student tickets £4.99 via free @CPDMe membership.
Don't miss @SAmineeddine on the Beirut Port Explosion, a disaster that combined several nightmare scenarios in one. He's first up at the Major Incident Masterclass webinar on Aug 5th. All welcome, from the curious to those with a professional interest. cpdme.com/CPDevent
Care doesn’t end when we deliver our patients to hospital. We’re back after lunch with Paramedic Stu and Aftercare Manager Sarita talking about the crucial support we deliver to patients and their families in the days, months and years after we’ve treated them #CaringTheKSSWay
Next up we have the Face of KSS himself (you may have spotted him in our photos!), HEMS Paramedic Ben talking about where the Charity started, where we are now, and where we see ourselves going in the future.
Great refresher talk on the acute knee from @fe2rawi - Joint assessment: Pain in the squat more extensor mechanism, on the twist related to meniscal surface

Updates on ITU lung recruitment/PEEP strategies from @drlaytin. Dianti SR/MA appears to show reduced risk of mortality using higher PEEP without recruitment compared with low PEEP, uncertain data when brief LR used but poorer outcomes with sustained LR. #ICEM23

Ian Thomas talking about how to setup a MultiCentre Study, market your trial and get yourself some prozac to boot. ‘RCT’s are designed on logic but built on relationships’ #ICEM23

Of all the streams I’ve seen so far at #ICEM2023, ‘Importance of Role Models’ is far and away the most engaging. Excellent talks on the organisational harms of Impostor Syndrome by Patrick Van De Voorde, and on staff wellbeing and culture change by @heidi_ed

Hearing about the EPR study for TCA in the ED - results due in December…. #ICEM2023

Hybrid resuscitation - are any UK MTC Emergency Departments currently *consciously* pursuing this approach (in adults or kids)? #ICEM2023

Day 1 at #ICEM2023 - Paediatric Damage Control Resuscitation - haemostatic resuscitation vs hypotensive resuscitation

This how we train, how we build team & how we work. Great day in the hangar with my @airambulancekss buddies yesterday. First live Joint Clinical Governance meeting for us since the pandemic started. Have learned so much about #leadership, #followership & systems from this gang.
