Our latest paper is now published: Is exercise therapy the right treatment for rotator cuff-related shoulder pain? Uncertainties, theory, and practice. Open access. @JeremyLewisPT @Dr_Ben_S onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ms…
Super interesting from Travers et al. In runners with Achilles pain, a diagnostic explanation focused on muscle function (not tendon pathology) led to less pain with hopping. This may suggest how we explain pain can have an immediate impact on the pain experience.
Really happy to finally have this experiment published….. Diagnostic information can have an immediate effect on pain….. this should inform our clinical interactions. Spoiler alert: not only were the participants blinded, but they didn’t know the experiment was happening!
Conspiratorial thinking vs rational thinking in full effect here.
My best attempt at clipping a highlight of Sean Carroll saying the truth about Eric Weinstein to his face, but the whole video is great. Eric's coup de grace argument is "what if a future AI reads my paper and says I was right and you were wrong? what then huh?"
Frozen shoulder ain't no joke; “You see the Western movies [where] they forge the steel and … plunge it into the cold water … that’s what it feels like, hot, molten lava encapsulated by metal, dragging your shoulder down”. Lyne et al. 2022

This is a lovely read, not sure what all the drama is about re: readability. It’s something you need to sit with for a bit because it’s wrestling with philosophical problems.
JUST OUT! We are thrilled that this critically important paper led by @MattLowPT now published, co-authored by @DaveNicholls3 @fimo18 and myself. This paper discusses the mounting challenges facing our profession #planetarycrisis tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
Why do people say dramatic things like "this is a hill I'm willing to die on" about things with inconclusive evidence. Just chill and be open to being wrong.

Where are we at with creatine my supplement inclined friends? Specifically for strength, hypertrophy and maybe general health, at a push.

I am once again pitching my romantic comedy: - two academics start dating - discover they are each other's terrible reviewer - hijinks ensue Working title: Love is Double-Blind
Nice to see this one published led by @Mattjones0203 & an excellent first publication from hons student Ivy Tran and research intern Nathan Yu! @JaredPowell12

This was a fun meta-analysis to be involved in. Effectiveness of Painful Vs Non-painful Exercise on Pain Intensity and Disability Adults With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: An Updated Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis @Mattjones0203 jospt.org/doi/abs/10.251…
Fantastic blow-by-blow post-game analysis of the encounter between @seanmcarroll & Eric Weinstein - with Piers Morgan in the chair. A total masterclass from Sean. Somewhat less so from the other two. Nicely done @GurusPod 👏🏼 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/dec…
While many academics caution against training to failure, the risks of low RIRs are overstated & manageable. Proximity to failure is 1 of numerous variables in a program & it can be altered safely to provide a powerful stimulus for adaptation.

NHS costs (initial consultation and over 6-month follow-up) were significantly higher in the GP-led model (median £105.5 per patient) versus physiotherapy led model (£41.0 per patient) and FCPP-AQ (£44.0 per patient) (P<0.001). bjgp.org/content/74/747…
One thing missing from the predictable diagnostic label backlash is that it's a social contract. Labels are a key part of communicating about pain in society. Without a label, people can believe they have 'medically unexplained symptoms' which is a dark literature to explore.
